Default Blind in town after running CoF?

Ran Chains of Flame with a friend the other night and something weird happened.

He asked me if I had Blindness Ward (I do) and then told me to talk to Erath (I did). No problem, not blinded. We finish the quest and double recall when I DC. Restarted game, and when I get back in, I'm Blind. And I still have the curse in my buff bar.

I played around with it to see what the problem was- I could take my Blindness Ward off, drink a Blindness removal pot and it would go away, only to return after around four seconds.

Finally, I slash-deathed to get rid of it.

    Is this a known bug?

You try using a curse pot? That'll fix it everytime!

It's a rare bug from back in the day, when all the Dev's followed my path of hatered of Bards. IE: Any Bard taking Erath's Curse would be struck blind for 24 hours in any instance.

Of course a remove curse potion/clickie would have taken care of that little problem.

As indicated in your screen shot it is a curse of blinding. Your blindness ward goggles prevented the blinding efffect from displaying but once removed the curse took effect. If you had drank a remove curse potion it wouldnt have taken effect, and no need for goggles.

I don't think it's a bug. What happened is Erath was cursed to be blind. To help him, you took the curse instead, allowing him to see. The debuff makes you blind. How to get rid of it is to use a remove blindness pot, the use a curse pot to get rid of the curse.

The reason you were blind not after talking to the guy, but after you relogged is because when you log on all your gear gets taken off then back on. (You'll notice you'll have fewer SP/HP as your GFL/SP items were just put on) When you logged in, your blindness goggles were taken off, then put back on, which gave you the blindness curse. Before you logged, the curse was on you, but it had no affect because you had your goggles on. Just drink a blindness pot then curse pot and you should be fine.

Many people have the false impression that you must have blindnessward to talk to this guy, but in fact all you need to do is drink a curse pot within 5 seconds after talking to him.

    !!!!

I've spent most of my time in DDO removing curses off of numbskulls who don't think to carry and drink pots when they see the word CURSE in their buff bar. Consider this Bard to have Past Life: Cleric automatically granted upon character generation. Of COURSE I tried a Curse pot! It says CURSE in big, red letters constantly floating above my head, lol.

See? CURSE pots! (And yes, I was targetting myself with the pots)

I didn't want to be wordy on the whole "Medical treatment" of the thing, but I tried Curse pots, Disease pots, Blindness pots, I UMD'ed a Resto scroll, and the Paladin busted his Unyielding Soveriegnty on me. I've run this quest a bajillion times, and I've never been blinded in town.

Check out the timer on the buff bar in this pic- When I was able to remove the effect long enough for the screen to get how you see below, the timer would go to 0:00 and it would re-blind me.

Seems this bug still possible in 2021.

    I had blindness immunity augment.

Removed blindness immunity item. Drank remove blindness potions.

    Reloged and quit.

    Curse was still there.

Fixed it by going into a quest and /death.

It's a curse with a "blindness" effect, but it's a curse and not normal blindness. Just get a remove curse potion or whatever.

    It's still not a bug.

Getting rid of the current blindness doesn't get rid of the curse that is repeatedly blinding you.

Like it's already been said, you need to get rid of the curse.
