What is the reason? Why exercise a double standard? It would seem that if males playing female toons is distasteful or unacceptable, then females playing make toons would also be the same.
Aww, poo. I really was curious to know what you had come up with about me!![]()

Really beating a dead horse here but either I seem to be noticing it more now or there is a influx of it then used to be but does anyone notice all the males playing male characters?
Is it a control issue? Might be just coincidence but I find most of these guys playing males are a bit pushy and rude at times.
Or maybe I just put to much thought behind a character as imo its a digital imprint of yourself in a way, since you can tell alot about a person due to his playstyle and what kind of character they play.
So you guys playing males can you give me good reasons of why you play a male toon?
**Do you see now how ridiculous and arbitrary you are re: Gender Issues, OP?

I generally don't run female characters unless I don't have a choice.
In games such as Diablo 2 where you have a class that is female only, it's not really an option.
Or in Demon's Souls where the female characters get special equipment I played one just to be able to use that equipment.
I have rolled up females in some Mud's but those characters were just storage characters and not something that I actually played as an adventurer.
I don't have a problem with it either way. I don't really look at the characters. I don't do interpersonal RP communications with other players so it really makes no difference to me. Getting instructions on what to do in quests and whatnot is one thing but I don't do the in-character RP stuff with others so it really doesn't matter if I am hearing it from a guy or gal.
The problem is these rude/pushy people playing male or female characters, are rude and pushy people![]()
I wish this game had sweet skimpy outfits and bunny ears like i have for my fem toon back when i used to play WoW.
Id love to run around town wearing basically Frilly underwear with bunny ears and /kiss anyone that walked by.
why?
it amused me. isnt that what the game is all about? MY amusment? its what i thought i paid for....
(Edit: My amusment within the games set rules and policies)
Do or Do not..... there is no Try. -Yoda'DDO, or DDOn't. There is no WoW' -Dunklezhan
I don't claim to know the exact statistics , but my guess is that at least 80% of the people playing this game are male . The characters I see seem to be about 50/50 between male and female . That tells me that there are a lot of guys playing female characters . There are probably overweight people playing skinny characters . There are probably short people playing big hulking brutes . There are probably dark skinned people playing light skinned characters and vice versa . Some people like to create a character that looks and acts and interacts with others as close to they are in real life . Some people like to do the opposite . Remember what RPG means . It's a ROLE playing game . I've played the pen and paper version of this game (loooong ago) and played some characters like me and some totally different . Right now I'm playing a male elf ranger , which from the previous posts is the worst choice ever . So i'll likely play a female half-orc or dwarf when I can , just to be different . My character isn't me . If you assume that anyone you interact with here looks or acts anything like they do in real life then you're in the wrong place .

Holy **** this thread has a lot of posts in it. No way am I reading them all..
I'm new to DDO, and this is my first forum post. I've been a "mediumcore" gamer since I was a kid (I'm 28 now).
I'm a guy, but if I have the option, I always make a female game character in any game...my wife calls them my ho's. I never have come up with a good reason why, but then again, I don't really have to justify it to anyone...except maybe my wife. I don't think I really know why, and I don't think I really care...maybe I have issues or something. I guess I just prefer the pretty to the harsh?
My toon is Lynnessa of Cannith. I had another, but I scrapped it. By the way, my character doesn't show up properly on my profile, dunno why...and I thought I made up the name "Lynnessa" but I guess it's actually a real name...go figure.
As far as I noticed in all MMOs I played, female characters are all about good looks, slim and young and immaculate, whereas male characters mostly have a gritty, battle scared, badass look going.
Some like it, others don't and rather have a cute female than having to run around with a scared, hulk-like dude with bad hair.
That's the main reason I as a female have mostly female characters. It's really quite difficult to build young- and good-looking male characters. They all end up with that veteran soldier image.
What is this... "The Crying Game"? Don't be such a pinhead .
Yup.
Just as all the similar threads on this topic have before - and most never ended well.
Yup. Cuz we want to....So you guys playing females can you give me good reasons of why you play a female toon?
Nuff said.
