    Default Males playing female Toons?

Really beating a dead horse here but either I seem to be noticing it more now or there is a influx of it then used to be but does anyone notice all the males playing female characters? Though yes I have seen it alot over the passed 15 years or so of my MMO gamin life. Sure I know the normal saying when asked why...if you are going to sit at a computer for 8 hours you would rather look at a female behind.

Or maybe I just put to much thought behind a character as imo its a digital imprint of yourself in a way, since you can tell alot about a person due to his playstyle and what kind of character they play.

So you guys playing females can you give me good reasons of why you play a female toon?

oh, its about that time of year again

usually i only play warforged male (if ddo does not trick me into doing a female again) so i can't help you there.

generally you may say that its more widespread here because the roleplaying aspect is so tiny in ddo.

if done my fair share of p&p (not only d&d based games) and can say i never seen a guy roleplay a female char (unless it was a drunk and silly evening).

so as this is basically a socializing hack and slash game it really does not matter anything if ppl have virtual female or male pixel avatars. i play with quite some females and some of em even play male characters. still i have never caught myself thinking that this female char has to be a female in real life. on the other hand i don't find myself thinking that of male chars too. so gamers i don't know or i know just by typed chat are always neutral to me.

I have met a few female gamers who play male characters for different reasons in different MMO's. I always thought it was funny nobody complains about that (or even notices it half the time).
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

As a female who plays both male and female characters, and has male friends who play either exclusively all female characters or exclusively all male characters, I have not observed this.

Some of the most manly, emotionally balanced guys I know play all female characters while being v funnily crude. In fact I know so many more guys who play all female characters that the guys who play all male characters I notice more and wonder more about where they're at.

Do you find it weird that me as a female plays male characters? Or you're comfortable with that because you see males as more superior or soemthing.

I really don't think you can conclude anything really.

Good response, I only play wf as well. In my p&p exp I will have to say the same and since there is less roleplaying in DDO its less of a reason to play a toon of your gender. Good point though with the roleplaying guess that why I never found a reason to play a female b/c I do roleplay at times in DDO.

Also to your last post I didnt tick out form it, just irritated as I suppose you are from the use or general thinking of it being used as a "bad" word by todays younger generation.

ok here's a dirty little secret. i'm a bit of a roleplayer. Not in the "Hail I am Galstaff" way. But when i make a toon they have their own personally based on class and role end game strategy for them. This usually brings out their sex.

Maybe i'm sexist, probably a little in regards to male / female roles in an rpg setting *shrug*.

So far my male / female choices for characters have nothing to do with gender issues, or liking cartoon butts (though some games bring out the sexy in female archers / sins) or even them reflecting parts of myself.

My main character is female *shrug*
I am roleplaying. My toons are zergers.

    Cool Reason's....

    1. You are allowed to.
    2. Variation is the spice of life. You can portray Xena or He-Man..Your choice.
    3. I am fairly certain the majority of males who play female characters play them for other reasons than there
    backside graphics.
    4. I am the father of a 4 yr.old and 2 yr. old. Both boys. I was there watching my wife do her thing when they
were born. It is in my opinion..female's are far more powerful than a male will ever hope to be. that being
said..I made a HIGH AC, Human Female, with ridiculous saves..in her image(loosely). It represents the amazing
strength that women possess, in my perception of women.

Just my opinion on the matter, have a great day!

Five of my seven characters are female, I each one represents one of my daughters, and one for my wife..My kids like to watch me play and trhisway they feel more included

If I am rude or pushy at times its not because I sexist..thanks for implying we where...Im equal opportunity rude...

one more thing Carnac...you cant tell anything about, me by the toons I play

Its a control issue. You obviously like to be dominated by those less vertically challanged than yourself.

    Default I'm a Guy

Oh yeah, the horse is dead, it is so dead that is has already began reincarnation into another life (If you believe that stuff).

I could be a little sexist, but I make my toons based on what the rolls I think a guy or girl should be as classes (Not gonna say which is which). I blame Lara Croft, I used to only play guy characters, but since Tomb Raider, I don't mind playing a girl. I will say I do have more girl toons than guys, maybe it's because I like girls? Which I think is a normal thing for a guy.

I usually have a character that is like a virtual me, and the leader of my toon squad. Now if my virtual me is ever a toon that is a girl, then I got some serious issues. Let's pray that doesn't happen.

Why do I play female toons...Um... ok. a list.

...cos they're prettier, and usually have better costumes, just like real life?
...cos I find the idea of a skinny female (and they are invariably skinny in MMOs) laying down the smack on big bad gribblys entertaining (I'm also a Buffy addict...)
...cos I like to amuse myself by letting male players hit on me for a few hours before opening up the mic and asking them if they'd like to try again?
...cos why shouldn't I? Its just pixels.

Now. Why do I play male toons? Cos I do have both? A list

...cos they look more convincing to me in half a ton of plate armour carrying a great axe?
...I also find the idea of a hulking great superhero-proportioned (and they are invariably superhero proportions in MMOs) chap laying down the smack on big bad gribblys entertaining (I'm also a superhero comic/film addict)?
...cos I like to amuse myself by yelling 'hulk smash' at the screen for a few hours while laying down said smack, yet carry on intelligent conversations via chat (if there's any to be had)?
...cos why shouldn't I? Its just pixels.

Essentially when I generate a toon I think about what character I'm actually playing - due to lack of RP in DDO, the characterisation side rarely comes across in-game, but nevertheless, its a starting point. If I'm playing something supposedly lithe and nimble I'm probably going to play a female toon - not always, but probably. If I'm considering playing an elf for example I may as well flip a coin because both male and female fit the body shape I'm looking for to project that image. If I'm playing something ug-thump, then probably a male toon - not always, but probably. Like I say, sometimes its amusing for me to, say, play a pretty elf barbarian girl who can barely string two words together but is devastatingly handy with a huge axe. Other times only a stout bearded dwarf will do.

I dunno. Is it important, particularly? Its just pixels.

Elf males look so stupid I don't see how anyone can play one. Basically so far the only race (excluding WF) that has decent looking male face models is dwarf. Therefore I can play male dwarves, but if I play any other race I'll choose female.

Gave this a thought and it seems I just have some default preferences as to what race and class a certain gender 'feels' better to use.

Dwarf (and HO from U7) - Always male
Elf and Drow (and probably HE from U7) - Always female
    Fighter/Barb - Always male
    STR Rogue - male
    DEX Rogue - female
    Sorc/Wiz/Clr/FvS - female
Never played monk, but would probably go male
Bard - male. Listed that last one, because I think I have some kind of logical explanation for all of the above, but none for this case
If world peace existed, I'd be playing Farmville right now

Good reasons for playing females, open my eyes up a bit as I have a 5 Year old and a 2 year old daughter as well. Also I never said the women where any bit weaker as my wife is in the army while I'm the stay at home dad and if I would imply that men are superior I would find a foot swiftly in my junk

I was bored and was just wondering about this topic thanks for those who gave me civilized answers. Also you can tell alot about someone from there playstyle and how they are in games.

I have both because I felt like it. I'm old enough to know that pixels completely fail to carry heritable information...there's neither XX nor XY anywhere in the equation. Skins that are labeled female are just that...they don't have periods, they don't mate, they don't produce offspring...there's nothing inherently female about leaving female as the default gender in the gender selection box.

Aesthetically, though, it can be said the textures called female evince slightly more graphical effort. More variation seems possible and, unless we're making clone avatars, we want to, in general, make each character appear different.

Now if you're running around in DDO evaluating toons as potential mates then I could see where you might be concerned about the gender of the driver. I don't do that, so I don't share your concern.
