Everyone is probably going to have similar, but separate reasons. For me, my family is spread all across the country so I create characters that look (or as close to) them in order to get somewhat the same feeling I had when we all lived closer. With all of us having families now and being so far apart, this is about the next best thing.

If I could get my family as interested in DDO (or any mmo for that matter) I'd probably be less prone to recreate them digitally...
