So noone should ever pug?
I don't like easybuttons in raids, but does there really have to be so harsh a penalty against potentially innocent people just because of lag, griefers, newbies who didn't quite get it, or any other number of mishaps?
Do we really have to be elitist and only raid channel/guild run raids when a simple change could make it more pug friendly?
How is adding a shrine when the quest completes 'dumbing it down'. Also why not let 'anybody raid'. The concept of raids being on a tier above regular quests is stupid. They are harder quests that allow 12 people instead of 6, give better bound loot, and because of that have timers so you cannot farm them.
The original concept of letting many groups of people get together to try and take down Gods in their own planes in EQ was fricking genius. Game designers since then have made them the annoying concept they are today by using them to simulate harder content... OMG, just like Epic in DDO!
In my experience, the problem with the barrier in this raid can derive from two different scenarios.
1) Somebody Leeroy Jenkins the dragon and locks out the party.
2) People assume standing slightly past the line doesn't kick start the dragon.
Point 1 is a problem for any quest, and I guarantee having a lever wouldn't solve that problem, it'd only delay Leeroy a few seconds. Maybe enough for you to catch up, but probably not, and probably not enough to be worth the change.
Point 2 I am seeing more often and requires people to step up and clarify what kick-starts the dragon and what does not. It seems that some people believe if you walk a little past the line, but not on the dirt, then you are fine. So, as the party is racing forward, someone does this, they don't Leeroy the Dragon persay, but they have already started the timer on the lockout and cometfall. If the party isn't quick enough, they've blown the raid, and odds are don't even realize it. I've seen raid leaders tell people where to stand and be wrong about it. Again, a lever might help this if everyone got to the post before the lever was pulled, but I doubt that would be the case. People would continue to pull the lever and line up in the wrong spot just to speed things up.
In the end, the only fix is clear communication, identifying lone wolves and reeling them, and dispelling myths about where one can stand and be safe for this raid. A lever won't help that.
On the other hand, I wouldn't mind a res shrine popping up at the end of the raid.
Rez shrine spawns in Reaver.
Why would multiple people die in Titan? If you die in Titan it's almost certainly your own fault for being in the wrong place, with the exception of the person running aggro on the floor (and that even still applies to him a bit).
Perhaps I should have said "any raid with a reasonable expectation of death"
My point still stands.
.
I think you said it best Paleus. It's that the raid was changed and the trigger point was moved. It's disappointing to pug VoN5 for about 1.5 hours just to fail the raid due to the small change. Perhaps the lever won't be a solution but I just dislike the invisible threshold mechanic which can lockout some or all the group. As most have said communication is the answer.

/signed put in a lever or drop the **** barrier altogether and make Vellah actually do something. Stupidest Fail mechanic ever punishing players for grouping teaches exactly one thing don't group.

This is and has been one of my fav's when it comes to raids. The only change I would like to see it to have it moved to a new setting (say underground where most Red Dragons hang out. Not in outer space? ) and she need gold LOTS and LOTS of GOLD... She is a Red Dragon so give the poorest dragon a bone.
