Hey folks, not sure who is left from the "good old days" of Sarlona who would remember me, but I am contemplating coming back to the game as a F2P type person.

I realize I'll need to buy a lot to unlock the toons and areas I was used to but I guess my question is this: Is the game still worth it? Seems like there have been massive changes since I have been gone, not sure if the learning curve is too steep for an old horses arse like me or not.

If you remember me and my style, give me a shout and help me make up my mind.

I went Premium, and have gotten most of the packs on sale - I think the game's still fun, but I'm also addicted. If you stayed away from the game for a reasonable time, then it's safe to say you're not addicted (my longest stretch was about a week).

I've been PUGging more often, too. I think that helps - soloing everything will burn you out pretty quick, but watching people bail on elite runs because the group is missing a trapper is great fun!

Game is easier in many aspects and harder in others (mostly more grindage).

I went p2p on one acct. Its not a bad way to go. I may on the other acct as well, haven't decided yet.

If you are comming back , buy some points today, they are on sale atm. You can buy a lot if you wait for things to go on sale.

Thf is getting a boost next update (I think you had a few thf'rs iirc)

Kulhal!!! I remember you and your all sorc shrouds (tried to sneak scribner into one with my 1 level of sorc remember?) Anyway, I am f2p after buying some packs and races, and I think it is worth it. Biggest frustration is going to be selecting 4 toons unless you buy extra character slots. The new content is great, and you will love Epic level.

Thanks for the heads up Quick and Max, I purchased the sale points package last night, but ended up having to do an entirely new install as my old client continually crashed.

Once I finally got on, I bought all the high and medium level content, **** are there a bunch of new quests.....lol.

I'll probably putt around a bit trying to see if I have any twitch skills left. If not, guess its time for the DDO Gym to see if I still have the "muscle memory".

I'll see you all in game sometime.

BTW....what are the new Raid(s) like? Lots of grinding to get flagged? Collect "insert huge numbers of rare items here"?

Errr, one of those changes that has happened? Is to twitching. I don't think it is irrelevant yet (I play mostly twf toons) but it got a hefty hit in terms of no glancing blows while moving. Someone who plays a twitch style character can probably give you more info than me.

I believe the froob is referring to basic gaming twitch, not the technique twitch. Pallol was always too n00b to actually max out dps with twitch

TOD isnt too difficult to get flagged for. You will need 4 ingredients to get your boots of anchoring (a must have item in the raid). Kind of hit or miss, so some grinding might be necessary if you don't feel like buying them.

IIRC Tetrol has boots and 20 completions before I left. Tashya has 10ish, Nodonn and Kulhal have a few as well.

Is there a new Raid since ToD? I left shortly after the Dreaming Dark area opened. Helped tons of people through and got sigils, but only ever pulled the Gloves with Titan Strength clickie for Tetrol....I forget what they were called.

I left shortly after that, so I assume there are areas I have not yet seen.

Lots of new stuff coming out in October 2010. Half orcs, half elves, new wizard, bard and monk PrEs and a new raid.

Most of the stuff you missed are the epic crafting, ioun stones crafting, Syndicates, Sentinels, new house Phiarlan & Carnival, Red Ferns, combat changes, and lag.

My first quest back in over a year.......VoD and boy was it ugly, lol. Couple of people not paying attention and/or not understanding English so well and we came so close to a wipe.

Luckily, after 38 mins or so we got enough people back up and finished. Of course I got ****, which is par for the course. I'll have to abmit that initially seeing reward values in plat kinda messed me up, hahaha. I figured the economy must have REALLY tanked or something at first.

Suffice it to say, I'm NOT going to be running my cleric in off PUGs anymore.

This is, unfortunately, the state of the game at moment. PUGs can really only be described as nightmares. Personally, I still run a few to keep myself awake from time to time (and also hope for the occasion good group) but many people do not anymore.
