Actually the absolute FASTEST way to get Sov's is to run Prey to get the essence, pay 50 runes to get the other 2 essences, run SoS, get your Sov and 50 draconic runes back, rinse, and repeat. 6 quests for 4 sov runes after crunching the tempest runes.

I'm not touching the quests out there until the mod goes live, or until Ferrumrym hits lvl 17, whichever comes first, as I know I'll be pretty burnt out on that stuff in short order.

Why do people always focus on the worst case? The only relevant part here is the average. The "1 to 5" range probably averages to 3, so you're looking at, on average, 1/3 of another Sov rune. And that's great.

In fact, it's really the highest that the drop rate can reasonably be. If it were slightly higher, say, 1/2 (average of 4.5 eldritch per mash), then you're getting 2 sov's for 1. Consider: You just mashed a Sov 'cause you didn't like it. You go farm another Sov; it's also no good. You mash the second one. You now have enough Eldritch to make a new Sov, which you mash. This leaves you where you started, except two Sovs passed through your hands, only one of which you farmed. You're getting 2 Sov chances for every 1 Sov you mash. That is way too high.

The current rate, in which you get 3 Sov chances for every 2 Sovs you mash, is actually quite a good rate.

    Cheers,
    Kernal

Because there's some poor soul that will only ever get 1 Eldritch rune every time they do this (maybe the OP is that guy and this whole thread is based on a horrible example). And still, that poor shmuck will be progressing towards something. I hope you realize I meant it in an encouraging way.

let us not forget that crunching a sov takes an el iirc. so this changes a bit of the previous math. but i must agree that > useless != useless

It takes a single Draconic. Not a significant cost.

One Eldritch rune from a Sovereign Smash is so anemic. I'd be much more excited about this change if that option wasn't possible.

I'm thrilled with the change; infinitely better than it was before. Personally, I'd make a slight twink. Times when you only get 1 Eldrich will be frustrating. Decomposing a sovereign rune should get you:

1 Eldrich rune and one of the following:
1d3 Eldrich runes or 1 Tempest rune.

Basically half the time you get 1 + 1d3 Eldrich, and the other half of the time you get 1 Eldrich and 1 Tempest.

This results in on average getting just over 1/3 of the sovereign rune back when you decompose it; very reasonable I think. If you grind 3 sovereigns, and don't want to keep any of them, you can try your luck and crunch them into a different sovereign (with an average of about 1 eldrich left over).
