Default Blocking - Bug or WAI

It used to be that, when you were blocking, you would be immune to special attacks (poison on a scorp, trip, etc). This is no longer the case; but I am unsure if this was a conscious change, an overall bug with blocking, or a bug with certain monsters bypassing this.

occasionally I still get the "block" symbol pop up, but this is usually after I'm already tripped and I'm shield blocking for DR while I'm down. Since I don't have any dedicated sword & board, I don't know if it's WAI or not

Hmm - when/where did you notice this? I've not been playing characters that block a lot recently, but I could have sworn that it prevented some potential poisons/trips against my toons over the last few days. Can go into a spider heavy quest to test it though.

Was shield blocking a pride of Jarlith last night with no issues.

Do you have to have a shield to prevent trip and stuff? I always thought just blocking did the trick.

It is definitely inconsistent. In the past, I had often assumed that one reason it only "sometimes" worked was lag between me pressing the button and the servers recognizing me as blocking when the mob attacked. At the time of posting this, however, I had been blocking for ~10 seconds prior so it struck me as a clear-cut example of a definite bug; or as a change to blocking mechanics from the old days.

Spent a good chunk of last night gathering up dogs, wolves, lions, scorps, Jarlith, and others in the Vale. The only time I suffered from knockdowns or poison was during a spell casting animation or while attacking after I got bored.
