And 11 is plenty. Some even start with 8.A favored soul without the charisma to cast spells seems kinda useless.. IMHO

You are correct, but a +2 Tome, a +6 Cha item and a few points of Cha enhancements from FvS are enough to cast any spell in the game. The only problem comes in when you get Cha damage from some source.
