    Default Question Regarding AA Build

Hello everyone. Recently I have decided to build another ranger, this time one that focuses on ranged combat. After picking the AA line, I need some help regarding stat allocation for the build. Considering a 32 pt. Elf with the following starting attributes:
    16 Str
    18 Dex
    14 Con
    8 Int
    10 Wis
    8 Cha

In order to get a good to-hit w/ bows, do I need to place my level-up stats in Dex or can I place all 5 in Str? I ask this considering all types of content up until epic. Basically, whats the to-hit I should achieve to feel comfortable with the bow? Thank you for your time!

make sure end game you have good str, i made a mistake didnt go custom and thought my dps was determined by my DEX so i hit like 20's at level 20 lol, so just hint, make sure ya balance you dex out qwith str so you actually do DPS

Lets say I do invest all 5 level-up points into str. At end game, my stats would be the following:

    Str: 16 Base + 5 Levels + 2 Tome + 1 Exceptional + 6 Item + 2 Ram's = 32
    Dex: 18 + 5 AP + 2 Tome + 7 Item = 32

This is obviously not the maximum potential for the stats for there are other items/boosts that can push them even further. The attack bonus breakdown for the bow would be the following:

    20 BAB + 5 Bow + 2 AP + 4 Spectral Gloves + 11 Dex + 2 Feats - 5 PA + 4 Greater Heroism + 2 FA= 45 to Hit w/ Bow

Now for dual wielding it would be the following:

20 BAB + 5 Weapon + 2 AP + 4 Spectral Gloves + 11 Str - 5 PA - 2 DW + 4 Greater Heroism + 2 FA = 41 to Hit w/ melee (of course, one must take notice that strength is a far easier stat to boost temporarily, but for now I won't consider effects like rage)

Therefore, would a 41 to hit w/ melee and 45 to hit w/ bow be comfortable or should I invest more in Dex?

More realistic, and better, would be . . .

Dex: 17 + 5 AP + 2 Tome + 6 Item +3 Exc (AA Ring from ToD) = 34 + 2 airship buffs + 2 Yugo = 38 DEX. If you start at 18 and +3 Tome you'll get 38-40 sustainable DEX (depending on if you die and lose Airship buffs).

This is what my Elf's got. She doesn't miss much even against the high-AC targets in Epics. Keep in mind Bard songs and BYO Improved Destruction.

It's MUCH easier to get a ToD ring than Epic Spectral Gloves or any other +7 DEX item.

Are you talking about Epics or standard content?

Note that Power Attack is melee only, it does not apply to ranged attacks.

You'll be more than safe starting with 16 dex and putting all lvl ups into str. This of course will help your ranged and melee damage while also boosting your melee to hit when necessary. The pure BAB and enhancements will be more than enough to hit anything in normal content.

Help yourself out by putting some points into wis at creation and dont neglect your rangers inherent healing abilities (although this takes time to develop). A little known fact is how effective rangers are as personal healers with decent wis (also boosts will saves of course) and a good meta feat. Besides you are now an arcane archer and many of your abilities are tied to your blue bar.

Got it, and I don't disagree. My 30 DEX melee clonk never misses either in normal content either, but generally the only time people need to be concerned about hitting is epics where the ACs are nuts.

These stats are ideal for a typical Arcane Archer ......... All my archers are built differently and what I have learned as an elf ...
