    Default U7 sound changes

There was a pass on the sounds for U7

    Sound Updates

    • 3D Sounds have been added to missile spells and weapons.
    • Character noises have been revamped. You will now grunt in pain and while swinging your weapon in a much more enthusiastic manner.
    • The length of bard songs has been changed to match the animation length. The songs are still the same (for the most part).
    • A sound pass was done on lots of stuff (battery receptors in prison of planes, monster hit sounds, monsters wearing chainmail, etc).
The only two I have noticed was the change in the sound arrows make as they fly (there are about 4-5 different sounds instead of 2 now), and the sounds I tend to make when I get hit (once more, with FEELING!). Has anyone else picked up on any others? I like what I have heard so far.
The problem is never how to get new, innovative thoughts into your mind, but how to get old ones out. Every mind is a building filled with archaic furniture. Clean out a corner of your mind and creativity will instantly fill it.

Running the "search for the lost parties" quest next to the rusty nail, the eerie sounds used in the tombs quest on Korthos are now played when the zomies wake up near the two shrines...

    * 3D Sounds have been added to missile spells and weapons.
Not bad - and perhaps the best of the changes I've noted so far.

    * Character noises have been revamped. You will now grunt in pain and while swinging your weapon in a much more enthusiastic manner.
I'll come out and say it... the revamped Character noised suck - and suck hard.

    * The length of bard songs has been changed to match the animation length. The songs are still the same (for the most part).
This is a nonesensical and very bad change. The songs now sound stupid and just plain wrong, and is a detriment to the Bard class as a whole.
    P U T . T H E M . B A C K ...please.

    * A sound pass was done on lots of stuff (battery receptors in prison of planes, monster hit sounds, monsters wearing chainmail, etc).
A lot of these I've not encountered yet - but I'll add feedback as I do.
One of these I have encountered is the the new Chainmail noise. It should now should be called Coin-mail, since it just sounds like you are rattling quarters in your hand when a hit is scored. It's not super-bad... but it's far from good.

I've experience all 4 and it's been quite enjoyable actually. All of them are really well done.

Hats off to you, sound team, job well done!

I love the new ranging sounds. Much improved.

I like the shorter bard songs. After having heard them 10000's of times, being shorter doesnt bother me in the slightest. One day you'll let us customize our bard songs, and there will be MUCH rejoicing!

Haven't had a chance to observe much else yet...I'll add some more feedback when I get to them.

Actually, if you forward to about 1:10 in this video, jingling coins is kinda what it sounds like. I will check to compare the sound in game.

    What the...

Why are posts talking about the bard song changes being deleted/edited?

    Let's try this again:
The new bard songs are doubleplusungood.

    Spot the subtle reference?

Personally I dislike the Bard song changes....if they were to be changed then all new sound should have been done so that it at least fit the change in length better.

Is there any hope at all that we will, at some point, see more sound options, such as individual scales for each party member, and perhaps a breakdown of sound effects? I keep mentioning it, and hoping for it, but since we're sort of on the topic anyway, I figure I'd ask whether there is any hope in the future of my being able to play DDO with all the sound on and still be able to hear my party mates.

I actually enjoy many of the new spell sounds, especially the magic missiles.

Because the bard song should inspire the player behind the toon as well :P, not creep them out.

I play a Halfling female Monk. What have you done to the sounds?! They really aren't all that good, I'm afraid. I like what we have now on the Live servers. On Lammania I cringe and just want to mute her.

IDK i had a chance to test my wf male sorc and male halfling monk.

the new sounds for the male wf were surprising. The new hit sounds were cool, kinda a tinny sound. i could see if it makes a sound everytime you get hit / attack this could get old really quick.

the monk attack sounds seemed overkill to the point of being silly.

I wonder if all attack animations are that sound intensive. I could see that getting annoying after a while. i was down with the noise every once in a while. Spend a bunch of times swinging at the same thing (raid bosses / portals) and i could see myself looking to adjust my volume to off.
I am roleplaying. My toons are zergers.

Why does my halfling sound like a hampster being stepped on?

So I beat up on a few people in "Bringing the light" and the sound the mail made was a lot like the sound the guys mail made in that video. Its exactly what I would expect a bunch of linked metal rings to sound like when you hit them.

One new sound I noticed was in "The Millers Debt" The Iron Defenders make a very satisfying "Thunk" when they fall down dead. I'm not sure that was there before.

Some of them are cool but after hearing my wf fvs grunt for the 10,000 th time in a 30 minuite quest... I hope theres a way to turn the player made noises off so I dont have to hear them and can still catch the rest of the sound effects im used to. If there is and I missed it, info pls.

Not sure what other class/races sound like but having been in a party with a halfling monk I have to say the new sounds are aweful. Was bad enough listening to someone elses character, I would be appalled if it was my own and couldn't get away from it.

If the sounds have to stay then please add a toggle switch in the options to turn of BOTH your own character sounds and other peoples character sounds.

    Not a good change.

Late Edit - just copied across my warforged monk and he sounds like someone is poking a pig with a stick. This is really really not a good change. I cannot understand how anyone in their right mind would design these sounds and think it was a good idea.

DPSing through an epic I do not want to listen to piggy noises for 20-40minutes. It's immediately annoying when you first hear it, I shudder to think what its like after half an hour of constantly listening to it.

Good news for all those upset about the halfling sounds:

From the 9-29 U7 change log (scroll to the bottom for changes)
The halfling male's attack voice has been adjusted based on player feedback.
