    Default Summons In Depth

Now i've only got a level 13 wizard to test these and can only get to level 7 spells, but this is pretty cool.

Ranger Summon Ally Spells did NOT recieve a new menu of choices.

TESTING PROCEDURE: Jump into redwillows normal, summon screenshot monster with examine and invis self. Move forward into first hobgoblin/bugbear encounter, then southeast to the scorpion encounter and then the trolls. Take notes on spells and combat behavior and damage potential. Note anything interesting or useful.

NOTE: Redwillows was chosen because it has a variety of mobs including casters and melee, low ac and high ac, poison, regenerating enemies, high damage and low damage mobs, and decent numbers relatively close to the entrance.

ALTERNATE TESTING PROCEDURE: For lower level summons the waterworks explorer may be the easy tester here, same method different area.

For the higher cr summons a trip around the vale for slayers can work well as the transition between lamannia spiders/scorpions and the fiendish trolls / earth elementals near meridia have what you're looking for as well.

I do have to say this is one of the coolest additions for Update 7.

    Default Summon Monster 7

    Djinni

The Djinni seems like a pretty decent summon.

Spells: Blur When it enters combat. Lightning Bolt for damage. Invisibility when combat ends.

Attacks: Melee - Good melee damage with a small cleave radius.
Tornado Mode: Becomes Invincible for a short time and causes knockdowns, minor aoe damage.

Other: Slow to move so it will have to teleport to you to keep up. It keeps any buffs when teleporting.

    Huge Earth Elemental

This earth ele is like the summon monster 5 version except larger and more powerful.

    Spells: None
Attacks: Earthgrab - lasts a few seconds, holds enemy immobile and auto crit
Melee: Strong melee single target only.

Other: Slow to move, a lot of hp and high damage reduction.

    Thelanis
Toons: Diclonius, Sempresno, Slitmuno, Slitmdos, Slitmtres, Skyfe, Calcatrix, Marcosias, Sumona, Tarokian, Etc.

    Default Summon Monster 6

    Large Water Elemental

Spells: Frost Lance (Strong). Snowball Swarm (Weak but aoe).
    Attacks:No melee attack noted.

Other: Medium Movement, decent damage reduction and hp combination, May cast cone of cold, could not confirm as it was cast during it's death and could have been frost lance.
The ai on this monster seemed to be smarter than normal, it targetted casters first and aoed melee enemies. It did get confused when surrounded by 6 trolls and 2 scorpions though.

No freezing spray after further testing.

    Eladrin Bralani

Spells: Blur when entering combat. Lightning bolt for damage. When low on hp it self healed with a cure spell (Serious or critical by the looks of it)

Attacks: Tornado Mode - Invincible with a weak aoe, no knockdown. Weak Melee.

Other: Has spell resistance but was able to be poisoned. Fast Movement Speed. Became unexaminable after tornado mode. The eyes shift colors which is pretty cool.

I might be mistaken, but I had the worg out on my bard when I was testing in Wrath of the flame and at some point hostel shadows were out attacking me.

    Maybe someone can verify.

    Default Summon Monster 5

    Bearded Devil

Holy... This devils damage is MASSIVE.

    Spells: None

Attacks: Large melee Cleave, Bite/pommel Strike Single Target. Extremely High Damage.

Other: Able to teleport, moves extremely fast and deals insanely high damage. Was able to take out 5 trolls (Excluding the orange named) before dieing in the span of about 6 seconds. Nice Teeth.

    Umbral Worg

Kudos for the idea... but it's meh.

    Spells: None

Attacks: Weak bite, able to create spawn when it kills.

Other: Summons in with no hp and in stealth mode, stealths often during a fight and does not seem to be killable... had 6 trolls beating on it for about 4 minutes and it's hp bar didnt move. Any spawn created are hostile to the party so you're likely to cause problems with this one.

you are correct, the worgs victims do turn into enemy shadows and when killed do not add to the kill count of the quest.

I tried the water ele and it appears they do not apply a freezing spray effect to lower resistance to cold damage. That would be my main draw to that one.

    Default Summon Monster 4

    Greater Ice Mephit

    Iffy.

Spells: Cone of Cold, Magic Missle

Attacks: Weak melee, Summon another mephit.

Other: It's hp regen seems slow and the second mephit it can summon is hostile. Stealths immediately on summon and that stealth breaks if it teleports to you.

    Lantern Archon

This seems broken... in the bad way.

Spells: Everbright Flash? Searing Light? either way it fizzled and did horribly weak damage.

Attacks: No melee, it did have a fondness for running away.

Other: Ran away when engaged in melee, unable to deal much damage, decently high ac, has spell resistance, seems to be failing to cast whatever spell it's casting, kindve like the meteor swarm quicken glitch.

    Default Summon Monster 3

    Winter Wolf

Summons are starting to become utter **** in redwillow which finally reached below it's at level cr.

The winter wolf is kindve like an ice version of the hellhound...

Spells: Cone of cold Breathe, decent damage.

    Attacks: good Melee damage, Trip

Other: Stealthed when summoned. Fast movement.

    Air Mephit

Same problems as the greater ice mephit... except this ones really invisible and not just faintly outlined.

Spells: Air Breathe - Causes a disorient effect on the recipients, no noticeable effects on the enemy ai.

    Attacks: Weak Melee, second summon.

Other: It's summon is hostile and it's regen seems to be faster than the ice mephits. It becomes invisible when summoned. Medium Movement.

Have you tested these with augment summoning?
Q&A is the business of pointing out others' failures. Optimists need not apply.

I have not, no lamma tp. But when I did test augment summoning out I found out that it made the summons actually worth it to summon at level. The bearded devil would be extremely awesome buffed and augmented, i'm tempted to say he'd be useful even in Desert/Gianthold quests, possibly even the vale. A good replacement would be the djinni, less damage much more survivability.

    Default Summon Monster 2

    Fiendish Bat

O.O it's not a spastic freak like the ones we fight!

    Spells: None
Attacks: Flyby Melee with decent damage

Other: Very Fast movement, throw haste on it and it will outzerg you. Very hard to hit in melee but easier than it is for the players. Falls quickly to a caster due to low saves (It was dazed 3 times and then put to sleep before dhulokk decided to beat it down with his staff.)

One more note: had no hp when summoned like a few others so far.

    Black Widow

    This ones ok.

Spells: Web decent crowd control and works fairly often, Acid Spittle Weak but ranged.

Melee: Pounce if moving, leg smash if still,, fairly decent damage, can kill a couple kobolds alone.

Other: Movement speed is really slow, it has low hp, and I detected no poison in about 6 kobold encounters (amongst several different summons)
