    Might have found the issue.

After downloading the new installer for 6 hours, reinstalling and getting the exact same error... I accidentally hit the "send email report" button.

The email report did not send because my ISP is blocked by Barracuda Reputation. Whatever THAT is.

Perhaps some essential part of the download is being blocked by the same thing that just blocked sending the email report?

I can't change my ISP. So it looks like I can't check out Lammania anymore. Won't have time to arrange to go to a friend's place and get the update.

But if I get the same problem when this goes live I can go to a friend's place and get the update and hope it works when I get home.

EDIT: WinXP getting same error but updating in the background.

    figured it out!!!

SOMETHING in my DDO settings/prefs folder that's in the My Documents folder was blocking it from updating. I renamed the folder, restarted and made sure it was running as admin (might help...) and presto now it downloads the updates. It looks like it was stuck in a state of trying to update the updater/launcher.

    hope this helps people out

    Nope

It didn't create a new folder either, just NullReferenceException again. Definitely running as Administrator. *headdesk*

    *Mudd waves at Irinis*

I got the same error, and remembered seeing this thread. While going through the posts I looked back and saw the message that the client had updated and needed to restart. Restarted the client and it said it was downloading the DirectX redist, then splash screens, and now is updating game data.

So my fix was to let the error sit there for about 2 minutes until the restart notice came up. Will see what happens when all is done updating.

Win7 Ult x64 - not running DDO as admin and not using any compat mode.

    Cheers.

Edit - Took 1 1/2 to update, but I now have the charcreation screen. (Still getting 404 error on char copy)

I've left it running for at least 5 minutes now. It seems to be doing nothing.

Earlier I left it running for well over 10 minutes but I had my dualbox Live clients open. Now it's only the browser and the Lammania client. Still nothing. The little diamond icon at "examine programs" isn't even animated.

It seems on Win7 that it waits for user input to even update the updater - or that my ISP is being blocked by Turbine for a critical part of the update process.

Received a couple of private messages from people who eventually got through this error somehow by clicking ok then trying again several times.

Nothing is working. The program simply gives "activation" over to the error box and doesn't do anything since I can't hit "update" to give it permission. Doesn't matter how long I leave it standing at the error box. After 10 hours trying to get this to work, I give up and just hope I will still be able to play the game at all when the update hits.

We are in the process of preparing an updated Lamannia installer, which we expect will correct this issue and require less patching after the installation completes. I don't have a solid date that this will be available, but I'm pushing it to have it available much sooner rather than later.

one possible fix: i just left it and it updated. after the initial update finished, it made me restart it. the nullreference went away and iit works.

    Thank you Thoon.

On my Win7 system, leaving it running at the errorbox even for several hours resulted in zero change.

I dusted off my WinXP system (because I recently found out that DDO is the ONLY activity that makes the older videocard in it throw hissyfits) and although I got the same error it didn't ask me for permission to update. It updated the installer and is downloading the update now, 125 of 3307. (Whether that videocard will allow me to check out Lammania without crashing even on superlow settings remains to be seen, hehe.) On live on this system, I can usually log in, create a character, etc, but playing the game itself causes crashes that eventually go to a black screen and eventual forced restarting of the computer.

I could check if copying the updated files over would help with the win7 one, but it might be a better idea to wait for the new installer so I can help you guys make sure that fixes the issue.

having installed this today on my work comp i got the same error. however the update/patch process still was working in the background so i just sat and waited, at the end of the process the patcher updates and viola it restarts and no more error.

Hokonoso are you running Win7? Only a few of the people who had it update mentioned their OS, and it was usually XP.

2 pcs, once is win 7, other is vista and as i said, error went away once the updater was updated. i think the issue is that the updater you download isnt uptodate and the error comes up.

suggestion to devs, post a link to an updated updater so ppl with this error can download it and patch from it instead. this shouldn't be hard to fix at all...

    Default more details

The error msg and everything is not uncommon, in fact, it's very common. The issue that I and a few others have been having is that waiting for the update and the launcher to restart with the new version so that it can go ahead and update the lamannia game client just doesn't work because the error msg completely locks the launcher application.

This total lock on the update process that the launcher has to update itself is the problem that only a very very small amount of people have experienced.

I fixed the issue when messing around with things but I'm fairly sure that it was by removing the settings files in my documents folder for ddo or from messing around with the lamannia folder and possibly reinsalling it using the same files I had downloaded the first time but not or maybe doing more (I can't remember) messing around with clicking or not clicking the update and other buttons trying to get the ddo launcher to update itself.

I recall that there was a sub folder somewhere in my lamannia install folder that looked like it had an update that was pending (I'm thinking for the launcher, but it might also be a left over from the previous time I had lamannia installed, part of the lamannia update 7 install or who knows what)

The ddo laucher and updater being updated should help things for people testing lamannia on Thursday with the event and for when it goes live.

The minute we have a Lamannia installer that does not cause this issue I'll let you know. Right now we don't have one ready yet.

The other thread suggested it might be a flash player issue. I updated flash.

Same error, still refuses to update in the background and hangs at the "update now" button with the focus solely on the error box.

I will NOT be buying halfelves or halforcs on live without the opportunity to test them beforehand.

EDIT: The updated version did work on my old old old WinXP computer, I was able to log on, walk around, and buy halfelves and halforcs and the new raid. Unfortunately the VPU crash that only DDO likes to cause made it impossible to create a character even at "very low" graphics settings. Attempting at a higher setting causes the VPU crash even sooner. It's an old ATI card. So now I own them but still can't really test, lol. New win7 computer still unable to update the installer much less update the game files.

I got the same in W7 x64, after I reinstall Llama-DDO -- but I tried just ignoring it, and after the game updates finished and it restarted, the problem just went away.
