    Default arch mages out dps sorc?

    Arcane Bolt
    Prerequisites: Level 9 Wizard, Wizard Archmage II
    Benefit: You fire a bolt of raw energy from your finger that deals 1 to 6 hit points of force damage per caster level to a single target for 1 spell point. A successful Reflex save reduces the damage by half. Purchasing this enhancement will reduce your maximum spell point total by 50.

    Arcane Blast
    Prerequisites: Level 15 Wizard, Wizard Archmage IV, Arcane Bolt
    Benefit: You fire a ball of raw energy from your hand that explodes on contact with its target, dealing 1 to 6 hit points of force damage per caster level to all within its radius for 5 spell points. A successful Reflex save reduces the damage by half. Purchasing this enhancement will reduce your maximum spell point total by 100.

    basically you are doing 20d6 FORCE damage single target or AE, which can be force specced and evocation DC enhanced for the price of the maximize + empower. it doesn't sound like the spell needs Heighten either, so you are basically blasting stuff for the price of maximize+empower. Ya, the spell won't have the sorc 20% capstone on dps, but then again the wiz won't have to pay the Base spell point cost of those spells at Level 5 and Level 7 etc, and apparently won't have to heighten them (not sure on this yet).

    Considering the damage type, force, and the superior DC potential on evocation of wizards, I would think a wiz could out dps a sorc with this spell over time even with their inferior spell points.

    the force spec will synergize real well with WF wizards as well, as if they didn't already have enough love

    Did I misunderstand something here?

    Yep, you misunderstood something.
    Metamagic don't aplies to these 2 spell like abilities, and they're level 2/4 spells, means:
    Low DC (can't be heighten, remember?) reflex save- all those evasion mobs will be unaected, others will save very often, resulting about 100-150 damage with fully force specced caster with +75% clicky.
    And it can't be used on som bosses with mantle of invulnerability (how to write this word?).
    Plus it cost 100 maximum spell points and have 6 second cooldown.
    On the other hand, it will be very cheap, and at mid levels it will be very good offensive spell.

    Also, I should point out that Pale Masters already has a version of Arcane Bolt called Necrotic Bolt. It does negative energy damage and cost 5 health instead of 1 spellpoint, but it also didn't take anything out of your spell point pool.

    Considering that even with the ability pale masters were considered merely ok even after the later fixes, I don't think the AM version will allow a wizard to out dps a sorcerer. But even if you were right, we have yet to see the sorcerer PrEs.

    As an added point, this game (unlike the tabletop) is sadly much more min/max oriented towards pure damage, where the wizard has a notable gap behind the sorc. Out dpsing I dont think will even be a factor. But closing the gap a little? They could use it.

    I tested it in the new level 12 quest pack. It seems like arcane bolt doesn't have 6 sec CD, as I was able to use it about twice per time I used MM. I would think it has a 3s CD from what I've seen. I tried to use it on the black panthers and stuff. Even at level 14 in a 12 quest, it saved more or less every time. All in all though, I like my new amounts of sustainable dps (which isnt more than like 35ish anyways)
