Well, isn't that always the case in DDO? Even incredibly accurate descriptions don't always tell the full or correct story.

I was just pointing out that, in this case, the description is pretty clear.

Shame that the last Sora Kell piece is a helm, I was hoping it wouldn't compete with Minos. :/

Seems like a really nice set for a WF FVS, though. Shintao bonus + 5 stats + Greater Potency VI.

I was thinking of Paladins/Shintaos of any race, because FVS has less need for Charisma and no need for Strength/Intimidate. But I'm also thinking ahead to the presumed upgraded version which will likely give +6 stat bonuses.

Hence my comment about WF FVS, since LoB builds will want STR and CHA (for spellcasting requirements), while WIS can be minimally useful for will saves and the set bonus.

Otherwise, yes, it would be good on a pally as well.

Totally gonna make a dwarf monk who tanks in Earth Stance. Decent damage with Jidz-Tetka, now this for Stoneguard. Ought to be fun.

What are you talking about? 80% of the fvs I play with are melee builds (undying scimitar, lob greatsword, or human khopesh twf).

What does being a melee build have to do with an FVS desiring strength or intimidate items?

All of those weapons he listed utilize strength as the attack modifier and you said strength AND intimidate were not needed, hence the comment.

Clerics and Favored Souls do not equip strength items of less than a +7 bonus, except maybe around Beholders.

Ok now I'm confused...are you arguing with yourself...you JUST said FvS DON'T need str yet now your saying they equip nothing less than +7 Str items.

The spell is called Divine Power. Clerics and Favored Souls already have a +6 enhancement bonus to strength nearly every time they're in melee. Items with a +5 strength bonus are virtually meaningless to them.

He's saying that since FVS can keep up Divine Power, they don't need a STR item.

I don't agree with it, but that is presumably his reasoning.

(Reasons to not agree with it:

    A) Not always keeping up DP 100% of the time
    B) Dispelling mobs
    C) Beholders
    D) You're a melee FVS... what else are you using all your slots for? Spell pen? Until endgame gear, melee FVS has a lot of equipment flexibility, and even then you probably have a Tower Ring with STR on it.)

Yes, that is how melee Clerics and Favored Souls function.

The item under consideration is the Maenya Fist, part of the Sora Kell set with +5 strength and +10 intimidate. At the mid-levels, a melee Favored Soul would instead want Charged Gauntlets in the glove slot.

Unless they don't have Devil Assault. Another good alternative is of course Spectral Gloves. However, I also like the set bonus for Sora Kell, so we're not just talking about the gloves. As it stands, I would find the stat items plus the set bonus (I mean, really, reproducing the Shintao set AND Greater Potency VI at level 11? Sign me up) very appealing. Especially combined with the fact that the best potency items are generally weapons at these levels, and you obviously want to be holding DPS instead of a scepter of sup pot VI.

Ok, let's go through a few possibilities.

    List A:
Maenya Fist, Teraza's Sight, Katra's Wit
    Provides +2 hit/dam, 40% Potency 6.
A WF FVS probably does not need the +5 str, +5 wis, +5 cha, +10 intim, or +10 dip.
You'll need to find some other Fortification (which likely conflicts with constitution belt).
    Hardest to get.

    List B:
    Charged Gauntlets, Minos Legens, whatever
Provides 25-50 damage on 20s, 125% Fort, extra hp.
A WF FVS probably does not need the +3 str or lightning 10.
You can use the ring slot for Devotion, or Sneak Attack, or something else nice.
    Easiest to get.

    List C:
Gloves of the Claw, Bracers of the Claw, whatever
    Provides +2 dam, 100% Fort.
A WF FVS probably does not need str3 or intim 7, and he'll get better than con2 from another item.
You can use the hat slot for Devotion or Wisdom/Charisma or whatever.

For a WF FVS, I'd prefer choice B or C instead of trying to get all the pieces for Sora Kell. The Sora Kell set is more attractive for a paladin or shintao, who has an actual need for the three stats provided. An FVS probably doesn't much benefit from the items aside from the set bonus.

Gloves of the Claw, Bracers of the Claw, whatever
    Provides +2 dam, 100% Fort.
A WF FVS probably does not need str3 or intim 7, and he'll get better than con2 from another item.

Not sure why you keep insisting the FVS will not need the CHA item. Starting from a base 12 CHA, 2 enhancements and 5-6 item cover your spellcasting requirements. If you have a +2 tome, that gives you the flexibility to drop either the enhancements or more likely the starting CHA to 10. Anything more than 12 CHA on a melee FVS is a waste. Thus, you need the CHA and Katra's Wit slots in nicely.

We disagree on the necessity of the STR item, so I will leave that one aside.

Admittedly, the helm is the worst part, and probably one reason I'd ultimately opt for a better setup including something like Spectrals. +5 Wis isn't that useful on a WF FVS, as will saves are relatively unimportant. However, if I was going to go for one of your three scenarios (keeping in mind I do not own Devil Assault, making the Gauntlets rather moot), I would probably go with A, accept the one useless stat in WIS for the purpose of the useful set bonus, and simply slot the Bracers of the Claw for fortification, leaving neck free for CON and belt free for GFL.

So sure, if someone was working from your assumptions, B would be preferable (though by level 11, I don't really care for C at all). But if they're working from the assumption that STR is useful despite the presence of DP, and that CHA is necessary, then I could easily see A as an attractive option.

But since we see the issue from such dramatically different angles, it's probably best to drop the debate in any case.

No, you don't need the charisma, because this is a mid-level item and you're not casting level 9 spells anyhow. It's an ML 11 item, so your charisma requirement is just 16. Eagle up.

12 starting Charisma would be abnormally high for any type of Favored Soul...

Actually, though limited in weapon variation. There are a couple 2wF melee FvS in my guild with 40 charisma and no strength who do quite well for themselves.

Mmm... 14 base CHA is nice to be able to easily get away with not even needing CHA items at any level at all. Sure if you can fit one in for a tiny bit of SP go ahead, but not ever needing a SP item? Being able to cast things like Heal or maybe even Mass Heal while disjunctioned? Bonus!
