Get gear before TR?

I've seen it in many posts, an advice to get a character all the good/necessary gear before doing TR? What is the reason for this? After TR you have to grind much more xp, so is it not better to TR as soon as possible, and then grind gear and xp at the same time?

I've a monk at lvl20, I'm a new player, it's my first lvl20 char. Also have a paladin close to 20. I'm thinking about TR'ing my monk, mainly for Past Life feat - seems too good to not take it. I don't see a need to grind for any uber gear right now - after all I got to 20 with no problems with the current gear. Why would I want to grind any items now, losing all the xp while at it, since I'm capped?

of course you dont need to, but this will make your leveling so much easier, and you will be much stronger than all other player (this can be seen in good and bad ways)

my first TR had a very good gear, nearly at all lvl you have incredible gear just waiting for you, and it will make an immense gap compared to the other "normal" players. at lvl 12 having 3 green steal 5 planar gir, chaosguarde, bloodstone, minos legend, BP of vol, +6 stat items, you are more powerful than most lvl 15-16 toons.

i loved the excitement of getting good gear at a level "where you should not" and you find yourself expecting it a lot, which addsthrills - you also contribute like 3 or 4 normal player in your team, making you (if you are not an arrogant clueless WF) a god to other player who will thx you a lot for your help (i remember at lvl 6, in tears elite, all my group died in the big room with respawning monsters, i got all stone and calered my way to shrine ahead, all by myself - the other player were not beleiving it)

but you loose a lot in term of challenge, all game looks much more easier (if you had extreme experience of quests you have runned 100 times and highest possible gear, you end up thinking soloing most elite quest is very easy; i soloed proof in the poison at lvl 4 in elite, pit at lvl 6)

think about it and see what you like in this game; tbh i would go with a minimum of GS item, this will make you run shroud a lot of time, so get money that will allow you to buy good gear (i mean normal gear but at maximum level) while you level, and maybe some easy clicky like haste, or summon stone elemental could be usefull.

TR is a choice, anyway, if yo uare sure about, dont forget until tonight true heart are at -20% so buy your heart now, evne if you decide to get some gear

Off the top of my head:
- Gear grinding gives you more time at cap to help know what you will need in your TR
- Better gear makes the longer TR xp grind go quicker/easier
- Some builds are very gear specific, so amassing that gear is required before the TR (and easier as a higher level)
- You become more familiar with the game, raids, and quests (some regard the wings as a badge of experience, so expect more from those that bear it)

All a matter of preference.
It's a game - play it how you find fun.
