For puritans like Antios and Junts who believes that going bard 20 will yield the best DPS (in to some extent I agree), the links on my sig provides two multiclass bards which I recommend before deciding whether or not to go pure.

    But do note

Pure Bard = best overall raid DPS through max songs, backup heal, Crowd Control

Hybrid Bard = best PUG bard depending on build preference; moderate to great personal dps and an asset as bards are rare in PUGs and if you PUG alot, 14, 16, and even 8 bard is better than no bard at all :P.

But Hybrid Bards are a personal choice though, but going back to what antios and Junts always say:

A pure Bard can give the Best DPS.

So you can't go wrong going pure ^_~ and its more forgiving if you decide to splash around.

    Default Best DPS bard

It's hard to speculate for the time being until U7 is released on the test servers at the very least. We've heard rumours of Warchanter gaining an additional tier to their PRE so 18 bard may very well provide the best DPS to the group/raid situational DPS, but for the time being and referring to the individual bard's DPS while providing the current max Warchanter DPS, I quite like the 16/2/2 Bard/Rogue/Ftr Khopesh wielder... Granted, I'm already anticipating re-rolling into 18/2 Bard/Ftr (keeping my MinII/LitII Khopeshes) while offering the maximum possible Warchanter PRE tier. Hoping it's worth it, but it's rather disappointing to know I have to give up evasion.

U7 gives us only Bard PrE's up to tier II, so its still a viable choice if one would plan to multiclass into either bard 16, 14, or 12. U7 will kill my bard alts that caps their bard level to 8, so I'm deleting most of them to make way for the new bare minimum bard: 12 bard multiclass projects come U7.

Your not going to break 400 DPS on a melee Bard, the difference between splits is minimal. With tier II Warchanter coming soon your best bet is 14/6 Bard/Fighter for burst DPS or 14/4/2 Bard/Fighter/Barb for slightly lower but more sustainable DPS.

This topic has been covered several times recently, next time before posting a new topic try the magic that is reading.

I'd build a paladin if I was you til we have further info on the future of bards.

    Why?
    0. Soon... Turbine will determine the level split of bards .. haha.
    1. If your looking for a DPS bard then paladin is the class to true ressurect.
    2. A paladin is enjoyable from 1-20. other classes, especially bard, demands gear that is almost un-obtainable as a new player to compete, plenty of piking time guarantee in't fun..

Which part? The pure part or the multiclass part?

Since the OP wanted a DPS bard, I merely pointed him the way in understanding what a DPS bard, which I believe is an honest opinion based on my experience playing bards.

A paladin is the least enjoyable class for me.

For most of the game it has low DPS, moderate HP, no DR, limited self healing and low run speed. Once you hit the vale its DPS finally starts to be useful but you will eventually reach epics and your advantage will decrease.

Of course others will find they like Paladins and do not consider those problems significant and will make the most of them. It is all opinion.

As for the gear thats not opinion you are incorrect. All toons require greensteel, raid loot and so on to make the most of the class/build.

I found em very fun to level up. Great DPS all the way. I can imagine them being weak in Epic due to their lousy to hit. But thats when you TR to bard... :P

I'm sorry.,., but Paladins certainly do not need GS to be effective, you must have misstaken em for all the other DPS classes :P.. Yes, they might need an hp item, but even a tier 2 is enough. And that even a newbie can farm pretty easily.

edit: and yes w/o boss beaters you will pike in shroud, ToD, VoD, DQ.. thats 2xring,belt, necky, eyes, 2xweapon spot..

    Just saying,
    A 14/6 halfer bard potential is 420 DPS vs 0% fort... (14/6fighter WF, 350)

Personally, I prefer Non SA dmg..

Tell me how often that comes up with only 10% threat reduction and under 500 HP.

Everytime you group with decent dps?

I'm no huge fan of SA dmg.. I'm not surprised when ppl always add up a couple rogue lvl and yells how much DPS they do... but in my book its pretty unreliant, hence my other comment of non-SA dps.

If you want a pure bard, try the Roq Star. Although I usually prefer MCed bards with more feats; in particular I don't like not having any metamagics.
