I'm pretty sure that #1 above would be implemented in the UI/gameplay options, allowing you turn either enable/disable allowing others to view your loot.

As for #2, you sound like one of the poeple the OP was complaining about. Additionally, they may be planning on T'ing into another class when they hit level 20, so you have no idea what their plans are. Again, your loot is your loot, my loot is my loot. Entitlement is one of the biggest problems in this game.
