    Default a challenge!

ok so here is a challenge for all of you pro bards:

an elven bard TWF user with all song enchantments and able to cast spells rather well and no splash!
the weapon of choice is rapier (I wanted scimitars at first but because bards don't get them rapiers are just as good) so who can answer my challenge?

    p.s its 28 point build

    I thought about this:
    14 STR
    17 DEX
    12 CON
    8 WIS
    8 INT
    15 CHA

    all level ups to CHA

    feats:
    TWF line (3 feats)
    improved crit
    toughens
    power attack
    heighten

    so what do you say?

Give it a shot! Not many people play 'generalist' bards, so you won't get much advice from experience. You can always LR if it doesn't work out.

Personally I would drop dex and use tomes to get to 17 (+1 should be affordable for anyone, +2 easy if you have been playing awhile).

You'll probably have difficulty with 'to-hit'. So use PA judiciously and grab divine power clickies.

Drow is way better for this. Bonuses with rapier and bonus to CHA.

See the end of the thread for the best feats.

Although this is 32 point, you can drop CON.

For 28 point I would go:

    14
    15
    12
    11
    8
    18

I'm still strongly considering making this my main character, in spite of his glaring weakness (squishy).

Don't be afraid of the scimitars by the way. Master's Touch in its current implementation is really good. I have a THF warforged pure bard and can honestly say that Master's Touch doesn't even enter into my thought process once I've finished buffing. My only weapon I carry that doesn't require Master's Touch is my Mad Lute, which I use to beat things over the head on the way to quests so as not to use sp's before I go in.

I prefer drow for this build:
~ Marginally better enhancements (APs are always tight on a bard, but you might squeeze in a little rapier bonus).

~ Better charisma (When it comes to CC spells, every little bit helps).

~ Better intelligence for skill points. All bards should max UMD, Perform, and Concentration (even if it's only for that near-death healing scroll or spell). Most bards (including generalists) should have Hide and Move Silently (sneak'n'sing tactics for the win). If you plan to go near monsters, Jump and Balance should get a healthy investment. Haggle is important if you don't already have a hagglebot. Diplomacy, Bluff, and Listen have their uses, but skills are already tight.

Still, the difference between drow and regular elf amounts to a smidgen of benefit here and there. Drow is definitely better, but not by leaps and bounds.

    As for the build itself:
It sounds fun. Definitely give it a go. Four caveats, just so you aren't surprised in a couple months:
    1) Your low hitpoints will get annoying when you melee past level 16-ish.
    2) Your CC spells will be unhelpful in a lot of content past level 16 (though your songs will still rock everyone's world).
    3) You will be able to hit stuff in most quests, but, as Bobo pointed out, you'll have to toggle Power Attack.
    4) You'll have so much fun being able to dabble with everything, you'll be spoiled and feel weird when you subsequently try to play a pure fighter or pure caster.

    1)how much is + tome?
2)I can get to 32 charisma without too much trouble isn't that hhigh enough?

BTW I chose rapiers because I can get the elven enchantments

My CC Bard goes between 40 and 42, and still has a little work to do. Would prefer to be around the 44-46 mark.

SO assuming 42, that is 5 DC difference, plus a further two from feats = 7 DC difference. I imagine you'll see a few failures, although your CC wouldn't be useless.

I think you'll get up to around 37 relatively easy (with time):
    15 Base
    5 Levels
    3 Enhancements
    6 Item
    2 Capstone
    3 Tome
    3 Exceptional

A +2 tome is probably quite expensive for a new player, but you really need to save stat points where you can on a build like this.
