    Default Linking DDO and LOTRO

Sometimes Turbine's business model makes me wonder if they are making online games. An online game that doesn't accept credit cards from Asia, brilliant. VIP subscription only available for North America. Account integration requires product key when the game had gone digital. The auxilary support for microtransaction model really needs to be overhauled.

Ok enough ranting. I'm playing LOTRO and DDO and I'd like to know a way to link both accounts. Apparently the launcher requires me to enter product key to play LOTRO when I'm on my DDO account, so I had to create a new one just to try out that game, but then my turbine points are split to two. Anyone got a clue?

The turbine points won't group anyways. LOTRO TP is just for LOTRO and DDO TP is just for DDO.

If you are looking to add LOTRO to your DDO account the easiest way may be to buy a Mines of Moria pack from Amazon or such (for $10 or less) and then just use that product key. I don't know if it will work or not, but it is an idea.

Otherwise from what I understand you need to contact customer support to get a product key to add it to your existing turbine account (your ddo account).

I just said 'screw it' and made a new account for LOTRO. It would have been nice to use the same username there but it isn't a big deal.

Oh, and as an aside, many companies don't accept Asian credit cards because the amount of fraud involved with credit cards in Asia. Some U.S. credit card companies also won't allow a U.S. customer to charge a purchase from Asia for the same reason. Sucks but that is the way of the world.

Yeah I never understand the want to link the accounts. Nothing is shared and you can transfer between the two. Also if one account gets banned, you wouldn't want the linked account to be banned too. So separated accounts is better in all cases.

But that does not negate the fact you cannot currently, automatically, create a linked LoTRO account with your current DDO Turbine account.

It must be amazingly simple to have a successful micro business model work, as Turbine seems to try and make it hard and convoluted as possible for people to do things they want to do.

You can combine them, but have to submit a ticket [ha!] or ring them [viable for US only]. Lucky this isn't an international MMO.

I set up a LOTRO account, linked to the same Turbine account as my DDO play... and of course to do that I had to use the LOTRO support site to get a key to add to my account. It only took a day, but something interesting is that it shows my account as being premium status. I don't know what that means in LOTRO, but it seems I might have got some benefit from linking the accounts.

Huh. I did a trial account for LOTRO and linked it to my existing Premium DDO account... and after reading this just checked... it's listed as Premium. That's kind of cool!
Please split the class forums into REAL subcategories this is a jumbled mess.

Have you actually looked in game LoTRO and checked if you've gained premium status and perks in game?

If this is the case I'll be sure to link accounts.

Yes, please advise if the in game 'premium' benefits apply, as i will also then get the two accounts linked.

I'm VIP on DDO, and started off a f2p lotro account (seperate at the moment as per the OP) a few days ago.

It would be a nice little bonus for DDO vip's if it does and is WAI

Yes -- on the character selection screen it states "Premium Account" above the list of characters.

It also says that I have three total character slots. Free only gets one slot.

It does give you Premium, 3 toons per server and up to 5 gold per toon. This vs f2p which is 1 toon and 1 gold.

I have a F2P account as of last weekend. I have a max 2 gold and 2 characters per server. I think they changed the F2P plan for LotR before they launched it.

FYI Free players get 2 toons per server, not 1.

Nice so who, what, where and when do I go to get a serial number for my current 'main' Turbine account?

Nice just after my previous post I submitted a support ticket over at LoTRO and shortly afterwards received a game code.

Make sure you put in your details and select the requesting a key option, as I'm sure it's automated.

Assigned the key and now have premium status over at LoTRO, very nice! The game itself is very different, not sure I'll be compelled to play. The combat system seems very ... um ... boring.

I kind of experienced something like that at first. So used to DDO and the constant need to adjust movement, press buttons, etc. In LOTRO your first combat can seem so very boring in comparison. Seems do seem to pick up tho once you have more 'skills' to use during combat. It is still considerably different. It doesn't seem like you need to do so much maneuvering.

I don't care for the combat system a lot either, but the graphics are pretty nice... I wish we had that quality over here.

Also, being able to dye your items as someone else posted... Turbine, if you don't add that to DDO (and sell dye in the store, in addition to making in-game ways to get it), you can't be serious about making money in your f2p model. Seriously, this is the cash cow you've been looking for. Hair, shmair, let us dye our clothing (and, by the way, flowing cloaks would help too!)

Yeah, LOTRO combat always feels like standing there playing "whack-a-mole" with your hotbar. There's fun to be had, but I see it as a diversion, not a main game.

Incidentally, I have LOTRO, DDO, and Asheron's Call subscriptions on two separate accounts... i.e. 6 subs, er, 4 "premium accounts" and two inactive AC subs... but you get the idea.

What I wouldn't give for a "turbine pass" to all 3 games! I'd get two!
