Exclamation The best and worst reaver raid I have been on

Well, I was just on my 20th reaver raid and I got to pick the head of good fortune woot, so that was the good part!

The bad part was what happened in the raid when The Madstone Boots dropped. The person said they were up for roll, so I think 2-4 people rolled on them and a wizard won them. Then all hell broke loose from mostly one person. He started yelling blacklist and bla bla bla. It really made me sick to my stomach to hear someone talk that way about someone else winning a roll.

I looked at the boots myself and with my build I wouldn't want them, they seem like they could be fine for an arcane, I know someone said madstone does not let you cast spells, but what about when the caster runs out of sp anyway? I dunno, I got really upset when someone rolled on bracers of the glacier which in my mind were for arcane so *** how dare you roll on those lol. I got some good advice from a great member of these boards and I let it go. Anyway, isn't it up to the person who called the roll to make the rules? What gives anyone the right to question the highest roll? He even went far enough to say do not give them to him even though he won the roll. I could not believe what I was hearing honestly, but maybe it is just me? How do you guys feel about it? I talked to the guy after the raid and he was really upset that he was treated that way when he won, and I can't say I blame him personally.

please no pms asking for names or guild names. I will never give those out.

Next time you run a ToD and a +4 str tome drops and the caster rolls for it and gets it, you will be the one complaining on the forums.

Unless the wizard was a melee build I would also be pretty upset if he won a roll on madstone boots over melees. What does he need it for? Potency 7? Superior potency 6 exists, superior combustion/freeze/other elements exist up to 8 for clickies. Maybe he didn't know that using the clickie renders him unable to cast spells. Maybe he also didn't know that just wearing the boots and getting hit also has a chance to trigger the madstone rage, rendering him unable to cast spells. Even so, I would have hoped that someone in the party could have explained it to him and that he would reconsider that "hey maybe I don't really want these boots."

Personally I wouldn't let a wizard win the roll if it dropped under my name, but if the person who looted it allowed it then its fair game.

I can definitely understand the frustration though of watching the boots go to an arcane.

What with TR nowadays, I've stopped caring about what class gets the loot and only care if the person who got it was useful to the party or complete junk. Seems to work fairly well for me, don't know about anyone else though.

With TR it makes it harder and harder to know these days, I just hope that anyone that rolls has a legit use for it and leave it at that.

    Default Rollin for stuff

I ran a hound the other night and there was a tumbleweed up for roll and I was on my rogue. It was a pretty good peice for my build and I rolled. I was out rolled by an arcane. But the person putting it up for roll explained to the arcane that the rogue would probably benefit a lot more from the ring. Te arcane replied, "oh I just like rolling on stuff" and didn't care that he passed the ring to me. I guess the point is that it can't hurt to exercise some sense when passing bound loot, some people are ******s.

If they plan to TR into a melee, it's fine, IMO. Those boots are terrible for a caster and uber on a melee.

The Glacier bracers are different - they are solid on both an arcane (mainly for the spell penetration, the other benefits are easily obtained on better gear from Amrath), but they are also solid on a melee that gets hit a fair bit, for the Fireshield proc.

IMO they are at their absolute best on a tanking-oriented Barbarian. 11 cold damage per hit is equivalent to a Lightning Strike guard (against foes that have no cold resist), and a near-permanent 50% fire absorb on a class that can't get that any other way. Powerful effects indeed, both ones you can't get any other way.
    I don't have a zerging problem.

As if Madstone booties are hard to get, one of my rogues has 3 sets

Some people need to realize that they have no right whatsoever to tell others what they can and can not do with their loot. It is as simple as that

I have a good feeling I was in that raid, leader of it in fact...

Ya I was pretty annoyed when he rolled on it too. I could've used the boots to some extent, too bad I got the lowest of low on the roll... again -.-

Regardless, the guy who set the boots up for roll didn't seem to care much, and he was the one who pulled the thing. So his loot, his rules. With TRs out in all, it could've really been the case when he said he was going to TR into a "battle mage", but people can say anything these days. Regardless, what happened is already done, you can't really start a crusade to hunt the guy down and banish him from society.

So in closing, just drop the case, stop complaining, and move on. People who roll for loot they really don't need annoys me, but people who have to rant about the past on the forums to no end annoy me even more... We're still cool though

My solution for this type of issue is to set the rules on what I am putting up for roll. If any argument ensues, I listen and consider it. To date though, there hasn't been a compelling enough argument I've gotten to convince me to allow someone to roll on something I pulled that doesn't seem to fit. Seems kinda rude to roll against melee on an item like that. I can't picture myself ever doing that.

Frequently, people will use the I'm going to TR argument. While I understand this well personally, (my main is about to TR for his 4th incarnation), if there is someone in the party that can use that item now why fuss about it? In my mind that's what the next run/20th completion list is for. No arguments spawn from picking your loot of choice from the completion list

In threads like this there are always people who chime in with the affirmation that it's the person who pulled the item's loot to do with as they please line. That's obvious and goes without saying, the only reason anyone would bother to post that in a thread like this is because they are guilty of rolling on stuff they will probably never use.

I only needed the leviks defender shield out of hound and I didn't even get a choice of it on my 20th. Soon after one dropped on elite and the cleric who pulled it put it up for roll. Even though there were other fighters who could concievably have used it situationally, the only other person to roll against me was a monk. He won. When asked why he was rolling on it, he stated the reason as being that he liked to collect rares. The cleric gave me the shield and I squelched the monk.

When I pull something I know I won't use, I always put it up for roll. If someone who I don't think can use it rolls, I ask for an explaination of why they think they need it. If they can't give me a satisfactory one, I ignore their roll and pass it to the next highest roll. If it's another fighter rolling on something just for the clicky, I ignore their roll and keep it because I can use the clicky too. The idea that someone can use an item for their TR doesn't wash with me, they will have an opportunity to aquire that item when playing through their next life. That seems fair to me.

Sounds like the guy complaining about the boots is a chump. If someone puts an item up for roll without first stating any restrictions, then the top roll should win. That's the end of the discussion.

If the person wants to put it up for roll with restrictions, he can do that as well, but he should state that first. Otherwise, just move the item to the person you feel it suits best, and call it a day.

I never complain about losing a roll as it wasn't mine to begin with. I don't care if my class or build would utilize the item "better." I didn't have it before the roll, and I didn't have it after. What's the problem other than people being greedy whiners?

loot dropped, was put for roll.. someone won it.. end of discussion. I do understand the frustation of melee lossing madstone boots..

The arcane who won it.. might use them with say the spell Tensers Transformaton to become a powerful melee for some minutes.. or maybe plannign to TR.. several reasons but bottom line is.. he won the roll.. noeone should say anythign nor criticize him for that.

Same is an arcane gets a +4 str tome.. or a +7 str Epic helmet in Von etc.. if they rolling for it is because it will benefict their char in some way..

    My humble opinion, chill

I put up a pair of Madstone boots for roll recently, a caster rolled as well and rolled the highest. I asked the caster in party-chat: "Are you sure about that, X? You can't cast any spells for 90 seconds when they process" The guy responded that he didn't know and he that he took his roll back. So I gave them to the second highest. Well, the third since the second had already recalled.

Should be wise as the person offering the item for a roll set up his own rules. As in: "x for roll. Will ignore rolls I consider moronic unless an adaquate reason is given ("For my TR" - is not an adaquare reason)".
With this method the only drawback is if the person offering the item for roll is limited.

I can understand that people are dissapointed in trying to get a given item, having bad luck on drops/roll for quite some time and then are a little frustrated because some people just "grab what they can". Not too sure that the OP should be called what you stated there, venting frustrations could be called "whining" but is has nothing to do with greed.

People rolling for gear that is not really critical for their build are far more greedy imho. In this case, even my pally gets annoyed when the madstone rage hits and I can't recast my zeal/divine favor so I'd expect it be close to utterly useless for any mage build (even battlemages need to keep their buffs up and running).

Loosing a roll for Lorrik's Shield on my FVS hurt too (already have the necklace), especially when it goes to someone that you had to rez 6X in just running to the raid. It hurts ever more when you take his class into consideration (ranger). But then again, rangers can cast (some) healing spells too, don't they ? Makes you wonder why you wasted 3 pods to keep the doggies alive afterwards though. In the Hound where I got the necklace (it dropped for me) the Ring of Thelis dropped too. Because only the other FVS and me where initially interested only 2 people were going to roll for it. When the other FVS had a crappy roll (11 or 12 or so) I left him the ring because I did not wish to be greedy by getting 2 items out of the same Hound. Just wondering how many people would have reacted in the same way ...

You will see this a lot BuyerSeller.

Your best bet is to not let it bother you and move on.

Personally, if I pull something and put if up for roll...I name rules for the roll. Usually I will not let casters roll on melee loot and I will not let melees roll on caster loot.

I also tend to exclude people who piked or were "Permadead" through out the whole raid from rolling. Also people who intentionally do not listen...your rolls are ignored.

    AKA
*The 200 HP monk in a VoD who lacked DR breakers and died 6 times...yeah you aren't rolling on the Goggles I pulled.
*The 150 SOR that intentionally runs out to the middle of Reaver Raid and dies and is afk LOOOONG after the puzzle is solved...yeah it was me who dropped your stone at the Puzzle so you can not loot the chest...
*The "I have no Heal Scrolls or SP Pot" Cleric who was out of SP within 45 seconds of a VoD and refused to shrine before entering because "Radiant Servant means I don't need SP" (thus making me have to chug pots and burn scrolls) will not get to roll on those "Gloves of the Glacier".
*The "I don't care if you said you are tanking the Reaver; I am gonna melee him on my 0 Healing Amp WF Barb" will not get to roll on those Madstone Boots I pulled.

All these situations have occured and will of course continue to occur as long I continue PUGGIN'.

I just actually LOVE hearing them cry over voice chat how its not fair...thats one of the reasons I PUG tbh. Also dieing and getting lost repeatedly otw to VoD or Hound...may get your rolls ignored. SHR PLZ may get your rolls ignored (you better shine inside the raid for me to forgive!)
