What happens if I get a guest pass to a zone, bind with a spirit binder in that zone, then die some place else AFTER my guest pass has expired? Or for that matter, die within the zone after my guest pass has expired?

You are allowed to stay in the zone even after your pass has expired, so I would think IF the bind point is actaully IN the zone that you would not have a problem. I know for a fact, however, that both the Tangleroot and Three Barrel Cove taverns are not actually considered IN the zone though. So you would NOT be allowed back in the the zone from those places. If others work the same way then you would have issues.
I really have NO idea what would happen if you are bound into a place where you don't have access to.

Well, now I know. Soondar died in Chamber of Raiyum after her pass to Menechtarun had expired. She popped out in Harbor, right in front of Inspired Quarter gate.
As an aside, Chamber of Raiyum is TOUGH. Its two preceding quests, Tomb of the Physician and Tomb of the Astrologer, are so easy for their level they may lull one into overconfidence. If you expect the third quest to be just a somewhat harder version of first two, it's a nasty surprise.
Also, Tomb of the Physician and Tomb of the Astrologer happened to favor my playing style. Soondar is a ranger, and long well-lit (why?) corridors are ideal for bringing mobs down with bow. Initial huge "foyer" in Chamber of Rayium is also good for that -- I took down gnoll groups one at a time, some with Slaying arrows. After that drew in one pair of clay golems and led them on a merry chase around the foyer before finishing them with melee, then did the same with the second pair. All fun...
...until I went deep into the tomb and started hitting trap rooms which lock you in a tiny space with several enemies, depriving the ranger of her mobility. With difficulty I managed several trap rooms with Eternal Hunters on ledges, and one room with clay golems (I may have lucked out and killed the mummies in that one right away), but the second clay golem trap room was the end of it. Soondar got hammered by the golems, then cornered by a guardian mummy, while golems beat on my hire cleric. I probably could have won that fight with quick application of Festivult cakes, but if the quest only gets harder past that... it's too much. BTW, Soondar is level 12 and cleric hire was 10.
