May the fallen lie in peace, they will be remembered well.

My personal prayer is that we can take a small portion of this day and the days to come to reflect on what we as individuals can do to further peace and understanding.

Hard to believe it's b een 9 years...feels like it just happened still. Let's not forget the loss of those who were the first responders. They died in the line of duty, giving the ultimate sacrifice.

Do you remember where you were 9 years ago today? To all those that died, to all those that survived, and to those that continue to protect us God Speed. I will never forget.

To those that believe the conspiracy, please spread your tinfoil elsewhere.

Yeah it's a world-wide tragedy. My sympathies to all the families of the innocent people killed in this horrendous act, as well as all those killed as a consequence of it.

We remain a strong country, and always will be. Now more than ever is time to celebrate what we stand for. This article embodies that strength and spirit more than anything I could say.

To honor the fallen, please refrain from posting your hate in this thread, start your own, I can only hope those that monitor this forum remove your bile from here.

I personally knew one of the ladies that died in the Pentagon, a civilian, a wife, a mother, a daughter, to the conspiracy nuts out there ****!

I am a vet of the first gulf war (as well as other conflicts around that time), and to those who are and who have served their countries (US or other) thank you.

i may not have a degree in fire science but i do know that heat will build up inside a building. and with that big building crammed full of flammable office supplies I'm not surprised with how hot it got.

Oh wow- Nine? That's like me remembering the Challenger disaster.... still remember it vividly.

I was living in Australia on 9-11. It happened in the middle of the night for us when we were all sleeping, so we didn't get the gradual shock of watching it unfold, I just got slammed in the face. My ex-MIL rushed into our room at 6am saying "I think your country is being attacked- you need to wake up". I shot out of bed, and the first thing I saw were (God bless) the jumpers and a headline stating that there were an estimated 50,000 dead. The Aussie news media were not as cautious as the American news media were....

I immediately tried to call my folks in New York State and the lines were dead/unable to connect. I remember asking for a shot of vodka and the next few days were a blur.

The first flight I could get home was to Toronto- I sat in the Airport hotel bar drinking by myself a group of 9 Scotsmen recognized my accent and asked me where I was from, to which I replied "New York". They were the kindest guys- insisted that I come over and sit with them and that they picked up the bill for my drinks. At one point, we raised a glass to the fallen and they told me to remember that the people of Scotland supported the US during this terrible turn of events and they made me promise that I would tell everyone back home in America that we have their solidarity and sympathy.

I'll never forget those guys and the good people of Australia who were so caring and supportive.

    I've always liked this story ( http://web.archive.org/web/200110080...tstruck19.html ).

This is an e-mail from an Ensign stationed aboard the USS WINSTON CHURCHILL, sent to her father immediately after
the attacks on September 11, 2001.

    Dear Dad,

Well, we are still out at sea, with little direction as to what our next priority is.
The remainder of our port visits, which were to be centered around max liberty and goodwill
to the United Kingdom, have all but been cancelled. We have spent every day since the attacks
going back and forth within imaginary boxes drawn in the ocean, standing high-security watches,
and trying to make the best of our time.

It hasn't been that fun I must confess, and to be even more honest, a lot of people are
frustrated at the fact that they either can't be home, or we don't have more direction right
now. We have seen the articles and the photographs, and they are sickening. Being isolated as
we are, I don't think we appreciate the full scope of what is happening back home, but we are
definitely feeling the effects. About two hours ago the junior officers were called to the
bridge to conduct Shiphandling drills. We were about to do a man overboard when we got a call
from the Lutjens (D185), a German warship that was moored ahead of us on the pier in Plymouth,
England. While in port, the Winston S. Churchcill and the Lutjens got
together for a sports day/cookout on our fantail, and we made some pretty good friends.
Now at sea they called over on bridge-to-bridge, requesting to pass us close up on our port side,
    to say good-bye.

We prepared to render them honors on the bridgewing, and the Captain told the crew to come
topside to wish them farewell. As they were making their approach, our Conning Officer announced
through her binoculars that they were flying an American flag. As they came even closer, we saw
that it was flying at half-mast. The bridgewing was crowded with people as the Boatswain's Mate
blew two whistles- Attention to Port- the ship came up alongside and we saw that the entire crew
of the German ship were manning the rails, in their dress blues. They had made up a sign that was
displayed on the side that read "We Stand By You."

Needless to say there was not a dry eye on the bridge as they stayed alongside us for a few
minutes and we cut our salutes.
It was probably the most powerful thing I have seen in my entire life and more than a few of
us fought to retain our composure. It was a beautiful day outside today. We are no longer at
liberty to divulge over unsecure e-mail our location, but we could not have asked for a finer
day at sea. The German Navy did an incredible thing for this crew, and it has truly been the
highest point in the days since the attacks. It's amazing to think that only a half-century
ago things were quite different, and to see the unity that is being demonstrated throughout
Europe and the world makes us all feel proud to be out here doing our job.

After the ship pulled away and we prepared to begin our man overboard drills the Officer of
the Deck turned to me and said "I'm staying Navy."

I'll write you when I know more about when I'll be home, but for now, this is probably the
best news that I could send you. Love you guys.
    United we stand.
