0X00000050 BSOD with X-FI

I have Windows 7 64-bit and Creative X-Fi Elite Pro sound card, nothing else is important. I have 3 option in the drop down list near 'Sound Playback': 1. Generic Software on Speakers (Creative SB X-Fi), 2. Generic Software on SPDIF Out (Creative SB X-Fi), 3. SB X-Fi Audio [8C00].
The probleme is when I'm using 'SB X-Fi Audio [8C00]' option wich enables hardware acceleration, great sound quality and surround speaker system. So to get the 0X00000050 stop error at the BSOD, all you need to do is choose 'SB X-Fi Audio [8C00]', and take a walk with your character around several zone. For example: take a walk from Inspired Quarter then Harbor, Marketplace, House Phiarlan till you get to Necropolis. Note: You wont be able to get to Necropolis in one shot, you would have to reboot at least 1-2 times becouse of the BSOD. If you will stay at one place for along time or just run quests, it might not happen.
So here is a list of couple of thing I've tried to fix the probleme: 1. Install latest Creative drivers (2.18.0015) 2.Install 3 lates version of OpenAL 2.0.3-2.0.6-2.0.7. 3. Replace ingame files (OpenAL32.dll and wrap_oal.dll) with the newer versions after game luncher updates. 4. Also I shrinked new volume, installed new Windows, new drivers, new game with no setting made to game or Windows I got the same BSOD. 5. There is no Host openAL (ADI) in my 'Programs and Features' list and 6. Playingwith the sample rate 16bit-24bit 44khz-192khz.
Nothing works, only 'Generic Software on Speakers (Creative SB X-Fi)' works well. So please Turbine fix this issue!!!
And please don't post here unless you have the same audio card or atleast anything from Creative. And don't tell me that it works couse its a well known issue, it just became worst since Eberon Unlimited. So I hope I'll never see again "page fault in nonpaged area".....

I have the same OS, Same sound card and the exact same issue. I have been looking for a fix and noted this started on 8-22. Never had a BSOD before. So I am here to tell Turbine it's not an isolated incident. This is a real issue for people with Win 7 64 Bit and the X-FI card. I also reinstalled windows, the game all the drivers and still can't resolve the issue.

Creative never replied to me when I sent my info in to them. I hope this gets resolved soon.

it's frustrating. I have to use stereo while i have 7.1 speakers and one of the best sound card, It's so bad because the sound is good

i gave up pretty much, and just use my x-fi headset via usb. and can select its hardware. its reasonable.

but doesnt sound as good as hardware on my 5.1 setup.

cant go more than a few instances without a bsod reboot with the soundcard/5.1

resorting to the x-fi hw on my headset is what i gotta do

Same problem for me too - just started happening recently as well. I've had the exact same hardware/OS since before I started playing (June), and this just started to become a 'recurring' issue the past couple/3 weeks.

Well I'm sure glad I found this thread. I was randomly BSOD'ing as well, and this information helped me pinpoint the source I, too, am using Win7 64-bit with a Creative X-Fi. Mine is the gamer edition though, but it uses the same chipset and driver. At least I'm glad Im' not bluescreening anymore when i turn off hw acceleration. The hit in audio quality is saddening, though

Seems to me Turbine might want to contact Creative to work out a fix together.

Has anyone seen a fix for this outside of using a different soundcard or not playing DDO?

I personally have to switch to my USB headset where the annoyance factor is a less than nightly BSODs.

By the way, I forgot to add something, there is the same exact issue with Creative X-Fi cards in LOTR Online. The issue became much worst since Mines of Moria update came out.

Have you tried troubleshooting your firewall with this? I've heard certain firewalls can cause instability with XFi Pro. (Especially kaspersky)

I run kaspersky myself and have had no troubles with the game myself but I also do not have that sound card.

According to what I've read on the subject it's neither the fault of kaspersky or DDo, but merely creative labs needing to fix the kinks in their drivers.

I tried that today and that did not seem to fix the problem. I even confirmed that the details of the file before I hit the green play button and again after logging completely in. So I knew I was running on the Creative Labs provided OpenAL.dlls and it did not revert back to DDO's version.

It's not a firewall issue and its not drivers, couse it's some kind of worked before the last updates. I think we made something here, Turbine announced at their luncher the there are some issues with the sound in this game and they are working on a hot fix. I hope it will be over soon...

I am curious after all this time that Turbine has not said something about this being a known issue. I can say with an absolute CERTAINTY this problem is with the game and X-fi sound cards. And it's ONLY this game for me. I play several other games, some new, some older, and have NEVER had this problem with any of them.

I also noticed in my case although it's not exclusive, the BSOD seems to happen to me MOST often when i've been playing for awhile, and MOST often when I click on the door to go from a city location to my guild ship. And at that it seems to happen most often at the harbor entrance to the guild ship, and one other city location I cant remember at the moment. Now this simply might be a case of frequent common usage of those particular areas, but I feel certain that the fact this issue occurs very very often when I am trying to transition from a city area to my guild ship is NOT coincidental.

I ran a program I got called Blue Screen View that deciphers some of the information in your BSOD logs and found that the most often faulting item is NTOSKRNL.EXE, which I know is usually a false indicator of some other item causing the issue. The next most common file causing the issue, sometimes concurrently with the NTO one is DXGKRNL.SYS, often paired with NVLDDMKM.SYS which is part of the Nvidia drivers. Now how my sound card is making my video card driver crash my system is a mystery to me. I checked out info on this file and found a few places about this file becoming orphaned and not updated properly. In my case however the file date is from Jan 7th 2011 so I know the file itself is up to date. Last specific file with any repetition is DXGMMS1.SYS. Only 3 files say this was the problem over the aprox 6 months of log files grabbed by Blue Screen View.

So how about it Turbine? Anyone know how to fix this in the game yet? From my limited experience what this all seems to be telling me is that this is some kind of code mismatch when transitioning from a city area to a guild ship, but it also seems to happen randomly every so often in quests, possibly when there is a significant video and/or audio switch from one environment to another.

Again I need to stress that there is NO POSSIBLE WAY This could be related to hardware or drivers in my system. I have been a support tech for most of my life and I update all drivers on a regular basis. The most recent one was a Creative update for my X-Fi sound card which let me hear actual EAX in the game for once. However this also caused the BSOD after a bit so I switched back to software stereo sound. And since then I have not had one BSOD in the game.

Also this system has been almost completely rebuilt and had OS reinstalled aprox 6 months ago and I was getting the same errors then. The only common components between then and now is the sound card, and some of the HDD's.

I really hope we eventualy get a response from Turbine on this even if it's "Yup we know about the problem but we can't/don't know how to fix it." And my apoligies if this has been covered in another thread but there are many many threads on the boards about this issue but not all of them have narrowed the issue down to the hardware sound option in the game with Creative X-Fi cards.

Secondly - I have the same problem... Win7 x64 for SoundBlaster X-Fi and BSOD w/ DDO. Sometime last year (and I've been using this machine for 2 years w/ DDO) I started getting BSOD's ***only*** while playing DDO. I narrowed it down to it frequently occurring when when zoning in the following order of frequency:

1) Zoning onto airship w/ someone talk on VoIP (So frequent, it got to the point I'd wait for everyone to be quite then click to take my chances)
2) Zoning onto airship
3) Zoning anywhere including between parts of a quest
4) Random (Fairly infrequent)

My Solution - I finally gave up and bought a high end USB Headset

Since we're reviving this one, I can report I found a suggestion in another thread (I'll post it if I find it) that worked for me - set your sound to "Software" instead of "Hardware" in your in-game settings. Since I did that (at least 2 months ago) I haven't had a single BSOD. I login/logout constantly, go to my guildships, zone into quests, and no problem whatsoever. Prior to making that change, I would BSOD at least once per gaming session, guaranteed.

why did we spend that kinda money on an xfi to run it in software

i bought a hardware soundcard so i can run hardware accelerated sound

i just use my usb fatality xfi headset as audio output now instead of my xfi soundcard


now i just get the usual zoneing crashes from toon hoppin too much
