fire mephits?

Is Cone of Cold a blah spell or am I just not using it right?

The other day I was fighting a group of fire mephits and figured this would be a great opportunity for Cone of Cold. I was thinking I would kill the whole bunch at once with a couple of spells, but it didn't quite work out like that. I had to change plans and use frost lance and pick them off one at a time - work, work, work!

Anyway it seems like frost lance is a much better spell. Or maybe I am just not getting it. Any insight would be great.

Also, as I was typing this I had another thought. Should I just use charm monster on a few of them and let them duke it out with each other? Would that work? Can you charm a mephit?

Any help would be great, because I hate those little buggars!

cone of cold is an awesome spell for mephits if used right.

its hard to control if they are in melee range...you need to get em at a distance. thats one of the advantages of cone of cold, it has a very wide effect and great distance.

often times, its best to run past the mephits, until you reach the next group of enemies. loop around those enemies, and run in a 3/4 circle until they are all in one spot. then get some distance from the group, face it, jump, and cast. if executed right, it will take out entire sections of a dungeon in 1 cast

also mephits have evasion. Try upping your DC.

As the name of the spell hints. It's a cone shaped area of effect starting from your finger tip and expends from there. Very nice spell in fact.
