That is one of my pet peeves, and it goes both ways. If I am joining a pug or if a pugger is joining me. A Simple hello, sup, YO! any kind of greeting is nice. And yes when they join or I join I say "hello". Usually get no response. And when leaving my party or if I leave their party I say good-bye or later, or ty for the party!
And it has nothing to do with what part of the world where folks are from. Just common courtesy, if you ask me.
Is it normal to group with 5 or 11 others without even saying hello? or good bye?

I'm an American, and since I have played the game I joined several guilds and Pugged with pretty much anyone and everyone. Without a doubt, my current guild, which is mostly made up of EU players, made me consolidate all my toons into it. The manners, etiquette, politeness, of the majority of EU players I have played with, by far, exceeds that of the typical american player.

But please give us Americans a little credit, we are definitely not as bad as the Brazilians.

That is actually really interesting. I've been thinking the same thing about these servers. The Americans are highly offensive and rude. It is as if they go out of their way to be bothersome. And yes I know these are Americans because they speak English and we allllllllllll know only Americans speak English. To further the proof of their American insensitivity this was on the US servers, and we all know that only Americans play on here.

The time that I've spent with EU players has been a delight. I have never ever in my life had a terrible experience with a European. Each one of them treated me with the utmost respect that I deserve. I actually believe that Europeans have the genetic inability to not be awesome. Now, I have never played on the EU servers, but needless to say, there was most likely no drama on them. No quibbles, arguments, misunderstandings, tears or sadness. It was possibly the closest thing to Heaven on earth. It was a crime that they were brought down (Most likely an evil scheme of the Americans).

If I had one wish in this world, it would be that my American blood be stricken from my body and replaced by that of a European. That way, when the heavenly EU servers came down, I would have been able to go the the American servers to tell them how much it sucks here.

I love you, want to be you, want to be with you, want to be in you. <3

I do not think the OP was about American sarcastic and condescending attitude. We can start another thread on that. But in a way, you did prove the OP's point LOL

Don't forget there's a huge lot of people not inclined to make a conversation for a number of reasons, some don't speak english, some play with a gamepad, slow reading (this is common), slow typing, etc.
Even if you do so it is usually limited to the hi and by stages since some people have trouble typing in the middle of a quest specially when you are normally either running or fighting.
Still it's good to say hi/omw/brt at the start since the group is waiting.

Ah you assume I'm American because I speak English. All that's been proven is that all people are bastards. The US servers are now a world wide hot mess. People should be more respectful of others homes and not insult them when in it.

    No one called anyone bastards.
And your analogy is flawed. US servers are not the home of Americans. They are private domains where both Americans and Non-Americans are invited to play a game. Or are you saying just because the server population is mainly American, manners and etiquettes is not a requirement?

Note: Having lived in California for over 20years, arguably the melting pot of the world, and having gone to Cal Poly Pomona, where there is a huge "asian" student population, I have NEVER EVER met ONE "Asian" that referred to themselves as "Asian". In fact it is an insult to call one from that region of the world an "Asian".

I know I'm probably being soft because I'm used to better manners but crikey there are so many people out there that leave a group without saying a word, not even 'ty bb' or even 'bb' if they haven't had a good time.

Then there's the 'Yes I want that item', no 'pls', 'ty' or anything.

And in all the years I've played, I've never been kicked from a group for saying 'Thanks for the group, cya' but it's happened to me twice in one week here. I mean, is it really necessary to save those few seconds between me saying I'm leaving to allowing people to say goodbye before I go?

*Hides behind a big WF before the flames come her way*

P.S. It's not all bad by any means, I've met some very nice people over here
I dont know about your server but for me your pretty lucky i mean if thats the worst you have come accross. I have come accross people who have sworn and abused me on party chat and even had people use racist remarks abuse ect. Bye and large most people have been nice and wonderful but if you get enough people together some of them are going to turn out to be jerks.

And no not all of those people where americans, most where though, 1 was canadian :P. Not that their nationality matters, i dont think americans are more rude than other people but I think they make the large majority of the people playing so chances are most of the good people you meet are going to be americans and most of the bad people are prob going to be american as well.

I only have one requirement in any PUG I lead.

Say hello, answer now and then........then I know you exist, you're there and you're with us.
Giving out instructions and not getting a reply....well.....

Pleasantries? Pssssshhhh they strangers to me anyway, so it doesn't bug me that much if they rude. There are a lot more people here than Europe plus this is the only place to play now so you're going to find every type of person...it's not the US server, it's the planet

American courtesy is quickly becoming a lost art, especially in games where there is a high proportion of kids. The level of discourtesy in WoW was a major factor in how delighted I was to be here, four and a half years ago.

It's grown a bit worse since F2P, but if a raid or group has gone well and there hasn't been any drama, I'll always sign out with "Thanks for the raid, everyone. Nice run."

Another art that is quickly being lost in The United States is the ability to use capitalization, punctuation and spelling accurately. For someone like me who takes both courtesy and grammar very seriously (some might say compulsively), I'm a bit less alarmed and a bit more resigned than I was, when I was younger. Nevertheless, I read your post with sympathy.

Kinda sad where this thread is going but you asked for it by including the "I know a few Americans in real life" comment in the OP, Khel.

Manners on US servers have little to do with people's nationality and a lot to do with the fact the game is free to play here. The population on Euro servers was more mature, definitely not because Europeans are more mature in general but because you basically needed a debit or a credit card to play, especially towards the end when gamecards disappeared completely. Debit and credit cards tend to be owned by adult people who have a stable income etc. I assure you that if Europe had gone F2P (and had been properly marketed), we would have had - proportionally - the same amount of unmannered adolescents you run into on here.

That comment was meant to re-iterate that this wasn't about Americans so much as the server as a whole and the first posters seem to have understood that but the last ones are all 'Americans this' and 'Americans that'.

    Talking Expatriate

Those dirty Americans were mean to me as well. I've been running lowbie groups and against my better instincts have not screened folks through filters of acquaintance or familiar guild tag (Hello Neg 10 P) and half of them don't respond to "Hello, greetings, Welcome!, or "Hello There." Although, since they are not using the mic and sometimes don't even type I am not completely sure if they are American. Either way, I am going to become a Canadian.

Actually I implied I'm a bastard. You said I confirmed the rude American stereotype, which I am not actually American though I've been living in California for sometime now. My statement was about how all people of any race are either good or bad and no one people lean towards either side.

Moving on, My point has been this entire time, that Americans are not the only people that play here, how does the OP know these offenders of etiquette are American? And why are Americans blamed for the actions contained within these servers? My point has been these are all our servers now because all the other servers have failed and collapsed and these servers have opened their arms to everyone else. So...why is it assumed that any infractions of morality and sensibility are by Americans when it can be any assortment of people?

Note: So, it is rude to lump all of Asian ethnicities into a lump term "Asian"? Over 4 billion. That's how many "Asians" there are and you speak for them, and you are basing your knowledge of over 4 billion people off your sampling of the "Asian" student population of a college in California. California has about a 7 million "Asian" population. If you knew how every single "Asian" in California felt about the word Asian that would cover a fraction of 1 percent of 4 billion people. Don't speak for over 4 billion people if you are not even a spec within those numbers, I wouldn't speak for that many people and I'm proud to say I'm an Asian American. I'm even prouder to say I'm a Filipino American but sometimes for simplicity it's easier to go with a broader term such as Asian. So don't you dare tell me that that it's insulting to describe myself with a word I'm proud to call myself.

You made it that issue when you stated that. You mentioned Americans, said people on this server are rude and stated how different that is from European servers. Server(S), Rude(R), Americans(A), Europeans(E). S=R=A-E. If you're not ranting about a type of people, then don't bring those people up. Next time just rant about rude behavior (i.e. Why are people so rude?...example 1 happened to me earlier). Because when you isolate and segregate people it becomes an issue of racism and that's usually something people care about.

I'm done with this thread it makes me sick. If you want to continue you can PM.

Intentionally take it out of context...tsk tsk. Cheasy to go into hiding claiming PM's only as well...

Your entire little analogy is flawed purely because the OP states the American server as a way to compare to the Euro server. There was no mention of americans are rude nor was there any mention that europeans are not. I suggest making your high horse a little more literate.

So lets put it into perspective. On the Euro servers it was small, ppl knew each other and strangers were hard to find. There was consequence if your behaviour was less than satisfactory. You wouldn't be able to group because people would learn to recognise you and your rude ways. On the US servers there are plenty of strangers, there is hardly any consequence for bad behaviour.

It is a comparrisson between the Euro server and the US Server. If it makes your little bleeding heart happier lets call US, 'Server A' and Euro, 'Server B' because just putting US in the title means a whole bunch of people attacking americans again.

So let me make it obviously clearer...it is not about americans, it's about a server that happens to be in American territory.

    .
    a little consistency wouldn't hurt.

anyway, to the op. Most of the time I say bye to those i've been playing with, but sometimes I just gotta go.
I think some folks boot people that say bye because of a disturbing trend (at least to me) of people saying bye
and then logging out while still in party. Yes, they can be booted after they "discon" but it is annoying to wait
for someone to run to the market/d/k selling stuff after they said bye and then disconning. meanwhile, the rest
of the party that wanted to run something is sitting there waiting to put up another lfm.
