Laptop Shut Down -- DDO

Hi there,

I know this might have been discussed extensively so far, but i haven't been able to find a solution or a thread that analyzes that particular problem.

Long story short:
Laptop shuts down 15-45mins in the game.
Not crash, but complete and instant shut down.
No error messages or BSOD
Computer starts normally after that (just asks for start up action for not terminating windows normally)
Game runs perfectly up to the shut down, full graphics and completely smooth and enjoyable

Configuration:
Lenovo Thinkpad T61p
Vista Ultimate 64bit
4gb RAM
Nvidia Quadro fx570m (configured for CATIA)

Tried (not everything but a few things):
Drivers (chipset, audio, video and will try BIOS although i doubt)
PC doctor detects no issues with hardware
3d mark runs ok (no crashes)
Switched all the exe's to XP SP2 compatibility mode and disable Visual themes/disable desktop composition/disable display scaling on high DPI settings

This is a relatively recently acquired laptop and i haven't done much with it, but it was working OK before running the game (CAE engineering applications etc), now it even crashes while not in game.

My concern is whether there is something wrong with my hardware or with the game/settings.
I never had a problem like this on my Vaio/XP 32bit playing for hours and hours of DDO.

Any help would be very appreciated as i bought this laptop of a guy at work and now i'm skeptical that it is faulty.

Most likely Heat related. Most lenovo's I've seen arent designed for extended CPU high heat applications.

Get one of those laptop cooler things and see if that helps.

turn down graphics card iteself, not just ingame

graphics card overheat, laptop just shuts off...

cpu possible, but iI'd go for card..

you can try cleaning yer fan. typical problem in laptops. also, you can invest in a laptop cooler pad.

I wish it was temperature.

For the record i've got tpfancontrol monitoring temps and manually controlling fans and the latest shut down instances occured with fan in disengaged mode (~4600RPM instead of 3200 of max BIOS operation).
Temps of CPU and GPU reached 61C MAX.

laptops shut off for a reason, usually do it to protect themselves.

I suggest lowering your graphics settting via windows to a much lower output, then same in game and see if it happens again.

laptops are not made to last...when the graphics card goes....ouch.....

Do not trust software based monitors.

It almost immpossible for a graphics chip to run as low as 61C now a days. Especially in a laptop.

OK will try the absolute minimum settings and see what happens. It was one of my next tests anyway, i just got very discouraged with the whole thing whatsoever.

The monitor i'm using is supposedly made for thinkpads only and it reads info from ACPI, it showed the same temperatures as PC doctor stress tests etc, it is highly recommended by IBM/Lenovo community. You might be right though and i shouldn't trust it. The thing is that the laptop itself doesn't feel hot at all when a shut down occurs. My vaio could probably fry an egg on the underside to the point that was unpleasant to be around! And still never had an issue with crashes or shut downs.

If all else fails. Do try a BIOS update. My friend was running on a ASUS laptop and he would get BSOD every hour until he did a BIOS update. It turns out that the BIOS on the launch batch of units have a problem.
