Default Light Monk Finishers (need some help)

Hey guys I am still pretty new to the game and have a Lv6 Light monk. I have been having some trouble with getting the Finishers to land. Specifically Healing Ki... I'll build up Ki until the finisher is highlighted in my bar but when I hit it I always get a message saying something about "you missed the opportunity" or something like that...

Is there something I'm not doing right?
My Fire and wind finishers seem to land perfectly but for some reason my water and Healing Ki finishers don't.. or at least I don't see the water hit I haven't actually gotten a missed opportunity message for it so maybe it's just not as flashy... But the Healing Ki is the big one I'd love to able to use it but so far haven't been able to... any help would be awesome!

Healing Ki shouldn't be an issue, if the icon of the finishers changes, just activate it and you should cast it. You may targeting yourself before using it, but it shouldn't be required.

The other light finishers are AOE buffs, targeted on yourself or whoever you have selected. Elemental finishers, however, are difficult to land, triple earth is probably the more useful (attack with +2 critical multiplier).

I sometimes see the message you see, but I don't know why: usullay it happens when I am too busy to pay attention to it

Thanks man! Do I have to wait for it to show up on the bar in place of the finisher icon though? I just have Healing Ki in it's own little hotbar slot...

Wait a minute, do I have to perform specific move combos for each finisher to become active? Because that would explain a lot lol... I would just like to apologize for my noobness haha

I think ill save some time and just add the wiki links:
    http://ddowiki.com/page/Finishing_moves
    http://ddowiki.com/page/Monk

EDIT: Get a potency/devotion I helmet, it works with healing ki finisher.

you have to perform the 3 moves to get the finisher ready, the icons in the feats list are just to show you what to do, use the generic finisher button that changes to fire off finishers

I don't do serious, it no fun

Check out this thread, very helpful.

In short, yes, you have to do certain combos to "activate" a finishing move. If you just put the generic finishing move feat on your hotbar, it will change into whatever finishing move you have activated when it becomes available.

For example, for healing ki, you need to be attacking and use your fist of light strike three times in a row, then the finishing move icon on your hotbar will change to look like the healing ki icon, and you can select it.
