Question rogue fighter build advice please

hi, just started a drow rogue / fighter build. So far lvl 1 rogue...
Need it to be great for soloing, and wanted advice on what split to take. was thinking ftr 13 / rogue 7
And more importantly what order to take lvls. Does it matter what order? (eg: if i take ftr lvl2 then rogue lvl 3, do i miss out on something. Or can I take them whenever?)

    Multiclassed builds should be planned out before you start playing. For rogue / fighters, some viable splits are rogue 2 / ftr 18, R 8 / F 12, R 7 / F 12 / <splash> 1, R 13 / F 6 / <splash> 1. What exactly do you want out of this build?

probably r7 /f 12 /1 barb (or some other splash)

want a reasonable solo capable character. so rogue for locks / traps / sneak attack. ftr for hp / toughness

can i take all the rogue lvls then add ftr or should i layer the lvls differently. does it matter?

I really like Rogue 13. you get the two best rogue bonus feats (Improved evasion and crippling strike) and a goodly pile of sneak attack. You can take any of the PREs which all have their moments depending on your focus.

Fighter 6 is good of course and fighter 7 is nice if you are defensive minded or going for tactics feats.

Fighter 12 is a good fighter break and pairs well with Rouge 7. Rogue 7 is nothing special except its 1d6 sneak attack more than rogue 6.

Splash monk 1, it can't hurt unless you are set on a given alignment or you go for a 13/7 split on a tankish or tactics build.

Not knowing your build, that's my take.

It matters, if you want it to be as painless as possible leveling up.

For instance, Level 1 should of course always be Rogue for the skill points. But we know that. Now, for level 2, on a 7/12/1 multi build you describe, a smart builder would put in 1 barb there, or maybe 1 fighter, early on. Why? It gets you martial weapons IMMEDIATELY. It gets you mini-rage IMMEDIATELY. It gets you faster movement IMMEDIATELY. Or in the case of fighter it gets you hp, martial, and feat IMMEDIATELY.

Honestly, a 7r/12ftr/1 barb is sub-optimal build, but if you want to build it, go for it! If you want me to explain why it would not be that much fun for you, I can elaborate...

In your case, I think you should stagger out your rogue & ftr levels to get the most out of your skill pts. Maybe something like this:

    Code:

Haven't worked out skills yet, but you should have max ranks in Disable, Search, and UMD; as much Open Lock and Spot as you can afford; any remaining pts goes towards stuff like Balance & Jump. You might be able to squeeze in stealth as well if you really want it, but I'm skeptical. Also haven't worked out enhs; it's a WiP.
