Default Monsters that run away with the treasure chest.

Quite recently, DDO has demonstrated that treasure chests can drop upon location of monster death (ie. Red Fens Gel Cube). Maybe this can allow for situations such as a group of enemy monsters, example being Kobolds, trying to run off with a treasure chest.

Spawning these events in random locations inside a dungeon would hopefully add some excitement and a slight sense of urgency while dungeon crawling.

I think that this would just provide more chances for something to go wrong and people to miss out on their loot.

I don't mean that they didn't catch the kobolds. I mean, what if the kobolds get stuck in a wall, or if the kobolds don't make it to their destination before they are killed and the chest doesn't happen to work properly where it is dropped. Just some thoughts.

    Excellent suggestion! I love it!

Edit: You can't really use the 'what if it's not coded properly' as negative argument for a suggestion... No suggestion would ever be any good this way.

    Absolutely! Good idea.

Of course, you could always let the monster run away with the loot but this kinda of mechanic could be used to bring more fun and different winning conditions to the game.

Like "Information is the Key" quest could be remade and the smuggler could actually be killed before it reaches the protection of the fellow smugglers.

    Oh That would be Hysterical!

It could be a Random Spawn and Perhaps reward the Players
with a second chest upon defeating the "Thieves"...

    Nice one.

    I can see it now...

Party: "Yay! We Just Defeated The Named Geletaneous Cube!"
(Sorry, don't know it's name, haven't gotten that one yet...)

Random rare spawns... The group of "Thieves" Steals the Chest...

Party turns to look for the chest... reality sinks in...

Party: "Wait! Where are those Sauhaugin going with our Chest!?

    "Get Back here!"

    *Chaos ensues...*

    Awesome!

    +1 Rep.

Its not about if it matters or not, its about variety. Its about building on whats here and offering a new way to offer an existing option with a twist. A way to make the expected/predictable a little less so.

    I like it.

Also, I agree Dingdongtudelu. Sure things could go wrong, but if they do it properly it wont. With that defeatist argument, why even bother to make a video game in the first place because something could go wrong...

I can imagine it being very hectic if the thieves decide to run through a path that hasn't been cleared of monsters yet. And I admit that certain unpredictable game elements makes the game fun.

Well considering that the Gelatinous Cube chest that's already in game was used as an example of how this could work, and how often that chest is deposited someplace where the key inside of it can not be recovered, I would have to say that the idea that it may be quite buggy is quite valid.

That said, as long as this did not effect any chest that rewards unique named items I think it would be a great change of pace!

    Thumbs up Yike Yike Yike

This would be funny as all get out:

Two kobolds running up to a chest "Yikes You not take kobolds treasure" running down the hall ,with there back up running past them, running for the party.

I think it would be nice if the kobolds are beefy , & casters have some out of the box spells for a kobold to have

    Edit: +1 for the idea

    This is an interesting suggestion,
Perhaps make it a possibility if the chest does not get fully looted. Or your rogue mechanic can booby trap it to get an optional xp and loot.

It might be cartoonish, but instead of something running away with the chest after it drops, if its a set chest perhaps someone could move it to another set area where it might be safer.

lol I love this! and I can just imagine a new tactic...
leader:hey wiz cast web on the chest b4 we fight the boss!
caster:Oh right dont want a repeat
    (boss is defeated)
rogue:Why'd you have him cast web on the chest and not the boss He nearly smashed us!!
leader: Those dang Kolbolds will never take my chest again not after last time!

I'd enjoy seeing thieves pickpocketing you in cities and in dungeons. Never for very much, a handful of arrows...some coppers. Mainly enough for flavor.

Perhaps some drunken barbarians shoving you out of the way as they stagger down the road. Or coin lords shaking down rogue characters to see if they've got contraband. If you fail to stop for the contraband inspection you loose 1 point of coin lord favor.

Would definately spice things up or keep you from going on extended afk in some of the shadier corners of the marketplace.
