Soami Gardens Chest

Is there a definitive trick to getting the chest by the big ol' tree near the entry to spawn? I got it to show up 4 times in a row by only killing the 2 greater quells that are linked to the Lunar regen ponds, but every subsequent attempt, it's not shown up.

if the chest doesnt spawn at the tree, then the lion rare spawned and you have to kill him to get the chest.
for the one at the tree they just forgot to put the mob there

the way I understood it, is this: If neither the quell or the lion spawn, you can cleanse the 4 altars around the area and spawn that chest. In no way am I certain this is the way, but I'm fairly sure it worked for me.

The chest can be spawned by killing the Quell on the left or killing both front Quells at the altars. If the chest is not there after killing the quells, then the Lion will be somewhere. There are 3 lion locations possible and all 3 can be ransacked along with the tree chest.

Thanks, I'm trying these ideas now but Laetoli seems to always be around heh.

This last time I got renown for him (Laetoli) killing the forest lion I charmed, first time I've seen renown on a charmed creature death

Bit of a thread necro, but along the same lines, the quoted bit has proven true, thanks again. Now about Lerroux, the Quell rare, is there a trick for him?

I haven't seen him since I started trying for that tree chest and am wondering if it was only the times I had left the other quell altars unmolested that he showed up?

Any tips?
