    Default Monk build needs advice!

Hi my name is Megan, I have been playing ddo for a bout three weeks now so bare with me pls. I have spent the first couple of weeks researching the fighter forum and I have learned a few things, but as you all might understand I'm still very new and have a lot to learn.

I created a monk pretty much right after I started playing, I know some may think it's not the best idea to play a monk as a first character, and for all I know y'all might be right, but I couldn't resist, I fell in love with the moves and so...

But I must admit even with my very limited knowledge of the game, I am realizing that my poor monk wasn't well built. So after working really hard to put a "starters" fighter I decided it was a good time to do the same for the monk.

While researching the fighter I came across a very knowledgeable and kind player Hokonoso who has giving me a lot of good advice and who has what seems to me as a really sweet monk. I also came across Hydro's monk. These two builds have a lot in common so I think I was able to combine them (hopefully well) but of course, since I'm an uber noob, I probably made mistakes. I wasn't able to fully replicate these builds because I can't reincarnate, and I haven't purchased the warforged but I tried to the best of my abilities filling in the blanks with a lil research and fingers crossed.
I wanted a human anyways... oh and I have 32 points at my disposal.

Hokonoso's build (which he so kindly shared with me and others):

    And Hydro's monk:
    http://forums.ddo.com/showthread.php?t=264340

And finally mine: I made some changes regarding Initial abilities (STR, DEX, CON, INT, WIS and CHA) I also picked the order of the enhancements, and skill point allocation. This is where I fear I might have made mistakes, Of course I'm not insinuating that these two well experienced players have, I'm by no means questioning their logic I'm sure it is sound. I would like advice regarding the decisions I had to make to accommodate this build to my 32 point monk =)

If you're going for Void 4 I would recommend more 14/14/14/8/14/8 then use the other points you have left if you can that way with a +2 tome in all stats you can easily reach the master requirements and with levelup points could easily do GM wind/earth as well if you wanted to do another 2 into dex and con.

I wouldn't listen to me, I just like erasing things from existence.

I recently became a eraser myself, and I like it.

    Thumbs up

It looks like a fairly standard strength/con based monk to me. I do have a few things that I think you might want to consider though.

Stats: For endgame use, you may end up being better off with a 10 in cha instead of wisdom since you rightly (IMO) don't have stunning fist. This will increase the DC for shining star strike as it's a will save instead of a fort save (plus it's fun to make mobs dance).

Feats: take TWF, iTWF and gTWF ASAP as they seriously increase your DPS by increasing your offhand proc chance 20% each. The toughness feats can wait as you won't really "need" the extra HP until later in the game.

Enhancements: For a human str/con build, I advise you skip void strike 4, though you could drop con to 14 and pump wisdom up to 14 with those points and get it, you would be giving up GM earth stance to do it though. I will say that I do have it on my wis/dex monk since it erases high HP mobs that can't be affected by death effects or stunned like undead and elementals. Also, try and take Touch of Death as early as possible and take GM wind stance as the 10% double strike chance allows for triple touch of deaths, pretty much instakilling a lot of mobs. Use Crane path instead of tortoise (only the first two tiers are needed IMO, but you experience may differ) since the extra ki generated off of the stunned mobs will be very useful in launching extra ToD. Finally see if you can fit in more of the healing amp enhancements as healing amp is your friend, granted the AP is a bit tight so you might not be able to.

Gear: when you get a chance, build some tier 2 greensteel displacement clickies since displacement and ninja spy shadow fade generate 2 separate miss chances for a total miss chance of 62.5% (5/8). Granted, I'm addicted to displacement and never leave stormreach without it.

Also worth considering: if you can get over the general ugliness (which I cannot) you could make a dwarf and have starting stats of:

    32pt

    16
    16
    16
    8
    14
    6

Which with Dwarven tactics 3 and +10 stunning HW will allow for a DC of at least 38 on stunning fist (worth taking) and probably around that level or higher on stunning blow when properly equipped. Not to mention more con from enhancements should you desire it. Also, you could get void 4 if you so desired. Unfortunately, they are just too ugly for me to bear looking at their backside for months on end.

looks great to me, id just put those 2 points in cha instead of wis (as suggested from my build) and go from there. twf feats are rightly taken at 15 and 18 cause an extra 20% before then is meaningless, especially since you wont have great dps till you get 2 tod rings and the 18 trophies needed to craft on them.

    Default Change of plans

Bummer! I just realized how difficult it would be for me to get the +2 tomes at level 7, so I moved them to level 20. Hopefully by then I would have gathered enough of them and some money too to buy them from the AH. In any case, thanks all for the help and advice, I will be starting this character soon.

If you don't mind investing a little bit of RL cash into the game a +2 Tome of Supreme Ability is a godsend.

    Default Hmm

Well, I just spent 30 bucks on the monk class and the 32 points, I wasn't planing on spending another 30 anytime soon, yet it might be a good while before I even get to that level. Don't know though
