Default Level 25+ Guild Renown Decay

Good day, I am Valtruin, head officer of Epitaph on Khyber. Our guild recently reached level 25 (Level 27 as of this afternoon), and I have been paying attention to the renown decay which I have read about. It would seem the decay doesn't do all that much, it stopped us from leveling to 26 a couple times, as it decayed the renown right before we leveled (as it would seem, all I know is that we were like 1k away from leveling then suddenly we were 5k away). I am not really certain how exactly this works, so it would be nice if Turbine would explain it. Though it seems that the decay isn't all that much to worry about. I think it is only there for guilds that have masses of inactive players. Thank you for taking the time to read this report, as information lacking as it may be ^_^.

Strange, your report makes me think that renown decay is actually worse than I feared. If you are level 27 then you are clearly among the most active guilds. If the decay actually set you back enough to delay level to 26 a couple times then I cannot imagine the effects when the guild is level 60+ or 80+...

Turbine is "testing the Air" so to speak. They are seeing how we will react, and adjust accordingly.

It sounds like they cranked the decay WAY up, and will watch and see how it works. If tis too fast, they will kick it back a notch.

Unfortunately, Epitaph, and other guilds like mine are the guinea pigs for this lil experiment, kinda like the fact that there are (AFAIK) no permanent amenties to airships, and i really think that sucks. Sure shrines and training dummies should be temporary, thats fine, but guild bank chests? Thats just the hungry, hungry (Turbine) Hippo trying to get as many TP from teh cutting edge guilds, until they make some items more permanent.

I cant fault Turbine, they are in this to make $$$, but COME on. Half-orcs are another thing, as well as druids, but guild housing is three + years late and THREE color options on Airships!?! This is not 1985 and this is NOT an Atari 2600. quit feeding us breadcrumbs, we have been starving for years.

    That is all.

But, but, but.....you can buy Guild pots in the DDO Store to shore up the decay...

This is concerning in a sense. If the 'decay' hits at some particular time, you could conceivably lose the ability to access amenities that you JUST purchased 10 min.(or less) ago. That appears problematic to me. If a guild spent TP(maybe REAL money), or the plat, etc. to acquire say the (large)chest and then decay hits, taking thousands of points, you could very well be locked out of the chest for days or weeks.
Does that make sense? or seem like a problem to anyone else?

this whole thing (especially the impermanent DDO store purchases) reminds me of rigged carnival games.

This has been hashed and rehashed on the forums many times, but the gist of it is:

If you buy an amenity for your ship (lets say a level 26 amenity for arguments sake) it has a timer associated with it (i believe 3-7 days by default, expandable out to a month). If your guild decays below the minimum level for the item, it remains on your ship, usable, until it expires - at which time you wouldn't be able to repurchase it (unless you have relevelled your guild in the interrim of course).

If you buy an airship (but decay below minimum level for this) the airship remains, fully usable as normal.

A couple of things to keep in mind.

    1) It's still new and will be tweeked

    2) you're @ LVL 25, does it get steeper as you lvl up?

    3) Nothing personal against you or your guild (actually this will give valuable info). Your guild is new and is comprised of new and previously unguilded people. Which after a bit will turn into a rotating door guild. What effect will this have?

But at any rate, congrats at LVL 25, and keep us informed on what you learn

It had just occurred to me as I read that statement. I'm glad they thought it through.

4,000 renown lost to decay and only for levels 26?!

I'd hate to see it at 40's, 50's and who will think for 90-100!!

I guess small guilds are in the **** even more now.

Thanks for the info, shame Turbine can't supply us with more specific info on this mechanism. I guess we have to roll 1d6 [1 to 6 for the stupid] and hope for the best!

That would be a singular die that consists of six congruent sides, numbered from one to six. Which is then dropped to generate a random number from one(1) to six(6). With the avg being 2-4.
    To further clarify.

This guild level decay sounds like what they do in Guild wars: Factions. In that game your guild/alliance loses 10% of your faction every 24 hours. But over there its because you can own towns, so its to keep things competive and more fair. In DDO i just dont see the point in having that guild decay. I mean its only guild level's its not like you actually own a town or anything of the like, so there's no real point to having this decay.

Before everyone freaks out, remember that larger guilds decay faster then smaller ones or ones with lots of multis. Also we don't know if you decay more on higher levels. So relax for now, freak out after we know the true facts.

They have already said 60 is where guild decay really kicks in so yes level matters

From what i remember on Lamannia, DDO daily was a level 55 guild that was decaying somewhere between 50,000 and 75,000 renown a day.

    I'd say level matters.

Default Every Server wll be just a few guilds

There will be everyone that is in the few guilds to keep the guild stuff going.

Loss of individuality and a sense of accomplishment in the game will be lost. No longer will new players be able to come into the game and start a guild because no one will want to join. Everyone will want to be in the guild with a +100 behind their names.

I survived the scary events in 2009, 2010, and 2011. 2011 did not reward those that played by the rules.

you mean wont supply us with the information? cause they know it, lol they set it. they just want to see how much people freak out so they can decide what the player-acceptable level of borking they can give us is before they publish it

I think guild decay is the biggest rip off yet. Money making pyramid scam-a-rific. Next thing is toon level decay. Please re think this Turbine.
