Default Disabling Auto-Log Out When AFK For A Long Time.

When has this happened to you?
Your soloing a long quest, near the end, but then someone knocks on the door to have a really long chat. But then before you finish talking, you auto-log out and your whole quest progress is reset.
Maybe not to everyone, but it can happen.
Id like to suggest a button that disables auto-log out for people who solo. It wouldnt be a big thing. And, there is also an option for people who likes auto-log out, you can keep it on.
Opinions and Criticism are most welcome.

PS I have not checked yet if there is one, so please excuse me If I had made a mistake.

The increased timeout button is labeled 'Upgrade to VIP'. I assume this is still accurate.

    Hmm. Thanks!
But sometimes dont you go either right or left side of the wall?
Thanks for helping, but still a disable button would still be very appreciated.

I thought it measured user input, which auto-run isn't. Anyways, I'm sure some sort of 'spacebar hitting' macro would be easy enough to configure one way or another.

Sadly the auto-run has no affect on the logout timer, I have already tried this one =).

To me it is actually one of the few reasons left to go VIP, that and always having hard openers.

Used to be, you could afk in a quest pretty much indefinately, but then people used it to exploit some raids, so the devs changed it so you couldn't do it anymore. So this is why we don't get extended afk sessions in game And yes, that can be pretty annoying, I just ask whoever is at door if they can give me 5 minutes to finish what I was doing

I am not a VIP but I solve this logging out problem by hitting the log out button and then never answering the confirmation question. Just leave the yes or no box open and it will keep waiting for your answer ... seemingly forever. At least, I have never been logged off when I do this.

You can face into a corner and put a stack of pennies on the W key. That's keyboard input. Putting a weight on the space bar doesn't work, becuase you have to keep hitting it to keep jumping.

But the auto log-out is to keep inactive people from taking up space and resources on the server.

A longer AFK timer is one of the perks of going Premium and/or VIP. VIPs get the longest grace period, but I see no reason why a button press should circumvent a benefit of being a paid subscriber. I mean, since going Premium I miss the ability to enter quests on Hard as the default... can I get a button that can grant me that?

It would be a big thing, because it would be further watering down the already meager VIP benefits.

Everyone would hit the disable button, you would then have a server full of afk's, and no room for someone logging on that actually wants to play.

Ahh. Thank you for your opinions.
I had no clue that VIPs had longer AFKs.
I never thought of a server full of people who are AFK, so thanks for telling.
So I guess I just have to run every now and then to press the space bar.
    Thank you!

Maybe a compromise and keep the vip timer the way it is but allow premium players to purchase the vip afk timer in the ddo store?

In my opinion VIPs should not have any afk timer.. but 60 minutes not bad.. no timer would be perfect :]

Well it is even a question of ecology. If you leave the house you probably turn off the lights, tv, radio and not keep everything running as it will at least increase your electricity bill, or if you leave your car on the parking place you as well shut down the engine. Now there is a server with hundreds of players, monsters and instances. That mean on one side the server need to maintain a session, keep the AI of the monsters running, send and receive data packages to the client and on the other side for non ViPs even a lower login queue. How long do you have to wait till this person return, if he is F2P you even not know if he will ever come back If everybody would stay in the game till the next server reboot, then the costs to run this server would reach limits that finally will kill it. I know, a bit exaggerated, but for the reason of illustration ...

Timeout is there for a reason, and there is a way to lengthen it.

    Thumbs down

How about the flip side of the coin, the abusers?? Imagine being in a Tempest Spine Party and the VIP with all the Sigils sits in front of the Portal to the main Boss and says, "Hang On people I have got to go to the store. I'll be back in half an hour."..!!! OMG!!! are you kidding!!!?? so he Demolished the quest for 11 of us!! only 4 of us were left when the AFK timer FINALY kicked him so the Sigls would Drop! So we waisted another 30 minutes trying to convince a New set of players to come join us to fininsh the Last Boss... still ended badly.. No, there should DEFENTLY Be an AFK kick timer!!... (10 minutes is just about right)

    Try this.

Place some sort of small item on 'W' and 'D' heavy enough to be able to push the buttons then proceed to tape them together. Place them on your keyboard.

    OR

Get an autoclicker program. Position your cursor at an icon in-game that can be continuously clicked and some sort of action occurs (such as opening and closing the DDO Store). Run the autoclicker and move away from the keyboard.
In case you didn't already notice, my posts that end with must NEVER EVER, under any circumstances, be taken seriously.

For the few times i wanted a longer afk... Usually pizza related...

Just move the (optical) mouse to the edge of the mousepad. Makes the cursor jitter around like crazy between the two diffrent surfaces...

    And it counts as 'input'.

Doesn't work with the new laser mouse tho.
