Default Number of People for The Pit.

What is the actual minimum number of people for The Pit quest? The blurb when you get the quest says 3 people may be needed. Is this true or can you do The Pit with 2 people? I've looked at some of the walkthroughs but the ones I've read don't make it clear how many people you actually need. Inquiring minds want to know.

Seconded. The most 'two player' thing you might have to do is turn a valve then run 15 feet to jump on the jet it triggers, and you might miss it a couple times until you get the hang of it, but there are no particular solo only hacks/tricks/cleverness that needs to be done.

It is difficult, though. I have a very hard time getting through that one blow-you-up-air part even though I know it can be done.

I'd prefer to two-man this quest with someone else who also knows it well.

That said, it's perfectly possible to solo it.

Gotcha. I was just wondering because the quest blurb says may need 3 people and It's one I've never done before.

Solo -- possible but need practice
2 person - possible but never know who is that other person

you and hireling ( love their teleporting abilities ) -- easy if you know how to use hireling

These videos are done by a level-appropriate character who didn't have access to the amazing twink gear modern characters have (these videos were taken 3 years ago).

The quest can be soloed, but it is certainly a lot harder to solo than most other quests you may have done leading up to it.

I do recommend reading the guides unless you want to mess around for 3 hours in there.

I guess it is spoiler material, but I certainly fun regardless. There is a lot that you just need to experience and figure out, even with all the guides. I would also recommend a hireling in furnace 3. It can be soloed but it can be frustrating the first time, and it does require some practice to make that jump solo without a hireling.

but why would you want to solo it? What possible reason would you have?

I hate pugging this quest. solo is fine, to be honest i usually just bring a hireling. I can do F3 on my own but i find it tricky and with a hireling it is easier.

I dont mind taking 1-2 puggers and i dont mind showing people the way. I think its a great quest with good xp but most people hate it. I did too until someone showed me exactly what to do. Now its a must for all my chars.

I find the more RL players you have the harder it is. Will always get 1 who falls. 1 who gets lost. people needing to rest at different times. people who need a rez shrine.

Normally back tracking in a quest to go to shrines etc isnt a problem. In the pit there are enough shrines (3) but going backwards and forwards for them can be a right pain ITA.

I'd recommend you don't read guides and actually just play the quest, might take longer but is loads of fun to figure everything out by yourself.

You can solo it, having a second player/hireling doing the valve in the 3rd furnace just makes it more convenient.

Because some people find soloing fun. Sometimes I like soloing a quest because it's a challenge. Sometimes I like soloing a quest because it's easier. Sometimes I like to have a party to chat with. Sometimes I just wish everyone else would shut up.

Having the choice between soloing and grouping lets me have all of those things when I want them.

While the quest can be solo'd, a team of two really cuts down the completion time for this quest.

This inspired me to try it.

I had tried once before in a PUG and all went horribly wrong. Kind of scared me away.

Any way, lvl 9 rogue with 2 hirelings (cleric and paladin) on normal. I know I'm 2 levels up on it, but my rogue can be squishy at times. Used the guides and it still took a LONG time. Some fairly challenging jumps. Riding the air bursts took several tries. Improved fire resistance was absolutely necessary. The final room was pretty tough. Lots of ooze throughout; repair bill was about 1000 plat. No muck doom. Great XP though.

Probably won't make a habit of it, but it's doable.

Thanks to everyone for the Great answers to the questions. A friend of mine and I duo'd it Friday night after work. It took us a little of 2 and a half hours but we figured it out and it was fun. We fought the avatar but didn't get muck doom to drop sadly.
