Default Is there an aversion to voice chat recently?

Been pugging a little bit lately with my lowbie wizard. It seems like nobody's using voice chat. When I started this game, the built in voice chat was a huge benefit/feature, different from a lot of other MMO's which forced people to use secondary voice chat programs. But it seems like everybody I'm pugging with is text chat only, which I'm horrible at. And a lot of them aren't even listening to the few people that do try to use voice. I was running Swiped Signet last night with a party full of melees, would announce haste on me, and get absolutely no response, no cooperation. Consequently, there were zero group tactics being used as well. Breaks my heart...

Buy some fricken head sets, people!!!!

What I am about to post is in no way meant to be prejudiced, racist, sexist, or otherwise offensive to anyone.

    1. Little kids don't voice chat because as soon as they talk, they are /kicked from groups. Call it mean if you want, but many adults don't group with kids. Period.

    2. Women are reluctant to voice chat. They get hit on too much. Again, call it sexist or whatever, but its just a fact. I personally know (in real life) several women who play, and they have told be this to my face, point blank.

    3. Video gamers are naturally introverted. i.e. Shy. Nuff said.

    4. Newbs are hesitant, because they feel talking = knowing what you're doing, and they don't.

    5. Non-English speakers are now prevalent on U.S. servers.

I have a mic, a very expensive one in fact.

I never use it in game.

    Personal choice.

I can and do listen to voice chat but I prefer to type.

Non-English people prefer you to type.

With the migration, is this really a surprise?

    Default Hmmm

Had the same problem recently. Then I realized my mic was muted. Push to talk was lighting up but no one heard anything I was saying. Check your mute switch just to be safe 8-)

On the other hand, talking is down and direct burst typing is on the rise. SHR, HELp, HJEAL!!!!

I don't use a mic. If you want me to use one, buy one for me.

We run skype as it works better than the voice chat in game. On the rare occasion we run game chat you won't hear me talking, I type faster than i talk usually.

It's situational for me - if I join and hear a couple other people on mic, I'll usually join in, but I am seldom the first one to speak up unless I know there's a trap or particularly nasty monster coming up and the party is heading in full-steam without seeming to know it's there...

I use voice from time to time. If I join a group and hardly know anyone I just type....but I do listen and follow instructions.

The people that bother me over voice chat are those that use it as thier own personal communication channel to talk about the days events. Or talk throughout the whole quest even though no one is really responding to them. Drives me crazy. Of course I get to talk smack about em in vent .

Some of those are going for $2.99. If you can't afford that, maybe you shouldn't be spending so much time playing video games...

You should have ranted about people not listening, instead of people who choose not to use voice chat. I type at least as fast as I can talk, and my speakers are on and I can hear voice chat just fine. I can follow directions. Having a mic doesn't automatically make someone listen. In fact often times I find people who have mics just like to yak about stuff no one but they care about. Just because you have a mic doesn't mean you should be talking all the time.

And before you give the old "I don't pay attention to party chat" line, would you be mad if someone turned off their sound so they could listen to music? Would you be mad if someone forced you to type into party chat?

Yeah I have seen the Kid hate on a couple occasions, soon as they talk - booted. I don't get it take them on their play not the sound of their voice. I will say there are times when the "kiddie halo syndrome" has ruined a crawl for me but I'm not booting someone out of hand.

Yeah the whole Women on Mic getting hit on thing. Seriously I don't get it. A gigantic EPIC FAIL for you horned up, desperate losers trying to hit on a woman playing a game who might not be in the same time zone/country/continent as you. Geeez they are here to play the fracking game not be drooled on. There are plenty of other places for you to get your internet freak on if that is what you want, do it there.
Its like car magazines that have half naked girls on the cover and in all the pictures in the articles, I don't buy car mags for the T&A if i wanted that there is a huge selection of other publications to choose from.

Honestly I can understand this completely. I have heard the women get hit on as soon as they speak in many, many games and I don't blame them one bit for type over voice. They shouldn't have to be forced to make the choice between harassment and tedious communication method but they are , and nothing gives you the right to judge their choice.
Move along , Nothing to see here

How much time do I spend playing video games, anyway? Are you watching? Should I be concerned?

And I didn't realize you were allowed to dictate how I spend my money. Can I have Subway for lunch today Can I have a Red Bull tomorrow?!

I find that the biggest problem with the voice chat is being able to hear people. Sometimes when I play there are people that can’t hear anyone when everyone else can hear them fine. And there are some people that no one can hear at all.

I have all my other sounds set to 1% and voice chat set to 100%

I still can’t hear some people unless I turn all other sound off completely. And then there will be a battle right behind me and I won’t even know it.

A lot of the time I just give up and type. My typing has improved tenfold since I started this game so it’s not really a problem.

To be fair, telling people to buy a mic is rather insulting and asking them to do it because you are bad at typing is not a good reason.

Don't forget a lot of the new players are joining because the game is free to play. When "free" is a selling point then money may be a factor.

I will have nothing to do with rep shenanigans other than giving positive rep to people at random but you should perhaps brace yourself for more negs.

i have only played with a kid that was using voice chat once. the little guy was doing just fine. and he was a big source of entertainment through the whole quest.

he was also the first person i had ever talked to that had never eaten pie.

I don't understand why voice chat allows such huge disparities in volume. I'll be listening quite happily to a group of people, we'll pick up someone new in the group, and my eardrums will be bloodied by HEY GUYS and shattered by WHAT'S UP. Ow, sibilants.
