Can a ranger get an animal companion?

i was wondering if the rangers in DDO get animal companions at 4th level if anyone has news on this please respond thank you

No, but you get the Summon Animal spells, to summon useless suicidal creatures.

sorry but no animal conpanions, but if your into suboptimal playing then you can always use the summon natures ally.

Yeah, you get to summon a CR1 "pet" at level 4 (though really it is few levels later before you even think about it, due to the fact you need Rams might, and Barkskin, plus maybe one or two other spells first).

Due to the fact that the pet is CR1 by the time you can use the thing, it is only good for a very minor distraction, and it normally dies very quick.

Rangers get hosed with their pet choices all they way through to the CR4 one you get at level 14.

I wish summon ally was better, but it really is useless. The only useful quest I found that summon ally is good for is Devil Assualt. If you and your party are defensive in the far left corner as you enter the room, and summon your ally, it will let you know about 5 seconds in advance which portals the mobs will come through, so you have a little bit of an edge on the mobs.
