Originally, The Cube was willing to allow the presence of Hi Welcome. However, over time it has become increasingly spammy and provocative, as evidenced by this thread. It adds nothing of value, can derail topics, and is often a thinly veiled attempt to antagonize another user.

Posting Hi Welcome in any of its variations is a form of post count bumping/spam/derailing and provoking other users. The only time it's relevant is to actually greet new users to the DDO Community, so please reserve its use to that occasion.

Whatever I might think about that decision, if I want to keep posting on the forums, I have to abide by Tarrant's decision. In order to get the valid message of Hi Welcome across without engaging in post count bumping/spam/derailing and provoking other users, I've decided to try to come up with a post that replaces Hi Welcome with an acceptable alternative (and not just /greenis cupcake or giraffe head).

Here's my attempt. The version of this that I had on "I'm Flabbergasted" was much better and I'm sad that I can't get that post back now...

If anyone would like to edit this in an attempt to make the post more useful without pushing it to the point of turning it into an infractionator, I'd be delighted.

Hi. You may not realize it, but the post quoted above indicates that you are new to DDO (or at least new to some aspect of DDO), so I'd like to welcome you to the community. In addition, I'd like to ask you to stop posting misguided advice becuase your lack of perspective and experience is really hurting your understanding of this subject. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, but I'd like new players to be able to come to the DDO forums and get good information on all aspects of DDO. Your post, sadly, does not qualify as good information.

Please feel free to enjoy the game in a way that makes you happy, but understand that you really do not grasp the fundamentals of this issue and your advice will only make life harder for the people who follow it. I hope that you return and post useful information in the future after you have played the game enough to get some relevant perspective.

Hi Welcome was cute and kind of amusing but ended up over used and we kind of paid the price for that. It was getting spammy. I think it was kind of silly to block it but its the mods prerogative.

I have a suggestion.

How about, if a player posts something that is factually incorrect, misguided, etc, you explain to them why this is, and point out where they are wrong and in what manner. This way they can learn, any new players who read the thread will get a complete understanding of the situation, and I can sleep soundly knowing that our community is intent on helping each other rather than simply pointing out when someone is wrong.

If the above doesn't work for you, then don't post anything at all. The days of "you're new, you're wrong, don't post" without any kind of constructive criticism are over.
