Update game data question

I have downloaded the game, when I get to update game data it doesn't save. Something like 17000 files are needed, but I never have enough time on my fast connection to update all the files. I get to 3k plus and have to leave the connection, but every time I go back to updating later it doesn't save those files I have downloaded. Is their a way to get by this or are you forced to stay connected and download all the update game data files at once?

Anyone? I am wondering if I can download it in increments, i.e. manual patch downloads? Any help would be much appreciated.

I would also like to see manual patches. The downloader is too slow.
