Default Mini and DM tool storage.

Not exactly DDO related, but I’ve recently acquired a few hundred pre-painted plastic mini’s, 150 squares worth of linkable walls, a couple of mats, and various other pen and paper aids.

I’m looking for some sort of system to nicely store and transport these things. Something like a fishing tackle box. The goal is to be able to make a single trip from a vehicle and have everything needed to run pen and paper game.

Does anyone have any suggestions or experience carting all this stuff around?

    tackle box would work.

or a nice suitcase with the foam cutouts for everything.

or if they prove to much hassle you can just send them all to me I would find some way to deal with the hassle

Can be a little pricey, but a nice setup. I use them for my warhammer 40k minis. http://www.saboldesigns.net/home.html

Or a little cheaper, but would need more than one. http://www.thewarstore.com/chessexfigurecases.html

I would go with a nice tackle box. Preferably one with removable trays with large compartments. Then you can keep all of the same model types in each compartment.

He mentioned pre-painted. If they are all in the same compartment, they will rub and damage each other.

Not really. Pre painted minis don't rub off like hand painted ones. Of course, if these are for display, that would be different. However, I am guessing he is actually going to use these to play with.

The majority of the minis are plastic DnD, Reaper (they have plastic army packs now) and hero-clikx. These should be OK to put in a mass container.

There are a few pewter minis and will eventually be painted. It would be nice to have them separate form each other but not take up a ton of room in a storage container.

I've seen the kinds of containers the Warmachine/Warhammer guys use. Those things are HUGE and seem to have a lot more padding than is required, but then again my experience is rather limited regarding the ratio of padding to protection.

Oh, sorry. I wasn't thinking of pre-painted as in store bought. I have never had one of those, only hand painted stuff.

    Exactly.

It's entirely likely that the plastic ones will be thrown at players, chewed on, and otherwise abused.

I am one of the warhammer guys, after you spend that long painting them, you want all that padding.

Oh yeah, you for sure want to keep your warhammer minis separate! Those are a lot of meticulous work to get painted how you like. They deserve padding and separation. D&D minis though are painted out of the box, flexible, etc, and they don't damage too easily.

Having observed a Hardcore Warmachine tournament at GenCon I can see your point about protecting your investment. They had to meet a certain quality level just to play in the event, yikes!

The main goal of my project is to completely replace using dice in DnD games with minis to represent monsters. I figure the various companies plastic mini’s will work just fine for this purpose.

I only have a couple of hand-painted pewter/lead dudes, so maybe one or two of those chessex boxes would work.

Regarding characters, I’m going to a friend’s house this Sunday for my very first painting session. I’m really tired of spending time developing a character in-game only to have it look like a blob of silver. Hopefully I can learn to paint well enough to match the quality of the Reaper plastic pre-painted minis. Anything better than that is a bonus.

Biggest help I can give on painting is take your time. When I rush is when mistakes happen.

    Default On Minni's and Painting....

Can you still purchace Polly S paints?

I have two cases of Miniatures I would
    love to Eventually paint.

But sadly I came home from
overseas to find my paints all dried up
    and turned to rock...

So I now basically need to buy
the whole set of paints again...
