Binding greensteel items

AFAIK, greensteel items bind when either first equipped or first upgraded. Is it possible to upgrade a greensteel weapon already bound to someone else?

Here is why anyone would want to:

I have two toons, A and B. A has access to Altar of Fecundity and B does not. A makes a greensteel blank weapon and gives it to B. B equips it, binds it and uses it. Later A gets access to Altar of Invasion. Can B give the weapon to A (via shared bank) and have A upgrade it? Or is it that BtC items cannot even be placed into shared bank?
