    Question barb/rogue

    could some1 please give me a good barb/rogue build? ive always loved playin as melee classes, but the ppl i play with now and i all agree we NEED a rogue. so, could any1 do me a big favor and gimme 1 if 1 exists? preferably without tumble, i dont use it

    o, also, id prefer to be more barbarian than rogue. but not 2 big a worry

    Barbarians are best if left pure. Mighty rage and the capstone add +4 strength. Your dex and int won't be high enough without sacrificing con and str.

    Someone else in your party should have planned on rogue levels. Wizards make a better choice to multiclass rogue because they have high int. They lose the capstone, but they gain a useful evasion with insightful reflexes. There are a few other good combinations that work well for multiclassing rogue, but none with very high barbarian levels.

    Rogues become less important after level 12 or so, when you get into Gianthold, Vale, and end-game raids. Gianthold has two quests with traps. One quest can be skipped. The other can be done by any evasion character. Vale doesn't have any quests with party-threatening traps, as long as your party doesn't walk into them. The traps are fairly obvious and easy to walk around or wait for them to turn off. End-game raiding has fewer traps and you can depend on other rogues to take care of them.

    Worst of all for a Rogue/Barb mix is that you can not disable traps while Raged, and a proper barbarian is always raged. So that means dismissing your rage every time a traps is ahead, or not raging to begin with... either way your are sacrificing more than is worth. But, if you insist on Ro/Barb than you will do it regardless of my advice. And if that's so you may as well have the best chance you can- so here's a build


    This build REQUIRES a +2 Dex tome and +2 INT tome at level 7. about 2 million gold investment, not too bad at all.

    TWF because you are going to have dex. You are going to have dex because you have evasion and may as well have good reflex. 18 Barb because Frenzy3 is a must-have or you may as well not be barb at all. 2 Rogue because you said you wanted to do traps, and because you wont be pure you may as well have evasion. Dwarf because if you are TWF you may as well use one of the best 1hand weapons in the game (dwarf axes) and not have to use a feat on it. And dwarf spell resists goes nicely with evasion.

    Keep in mind, i do not recommend the play style, but if you insist on it- i think this is your best bet.

    Roll a Ranger/Rogue hybrid? Search for 'exploiter' build.

    Rogue *is* a melee class. It's primary hard hitting warrior.

    The way things are in DDO any class can be made 'melee'. Some better the others, but all can be good melee fighters.

    Those traps and lock are 'secondary' job. More like a hobby. Anyone with a small splash of rogue can do it. But because traps/locks need lots of skill point, its the easiest for Rogue, Ranger/Rogue, Bard/Rogue or Wizard/Rogue.

    I'd made a hard hitting melee oriented Rogue or Ranger/Rogue.

    I'm playing a barb/rog now and having a blast. I'm heading toward barb 14/ rog 5/ fighter 1 (I wanted ITHF at level 7). Rogue 1, followed by 5 levels of barb, 1 level of figheter, 1 level of barb, rogue at 9, then barb at 10 to get where I am now.

    I use THF, kept dex relatively low so I could start with a 14 int to have enough skill points to keep all the needed rogue skills high - I also went human for the extra skill point.

    It's a fun character that is by no means an optimized barb build, but more than holds his own in combat and can do everything you'd expect a rogue to do. I'd link the build, but I didn't use one of those fancy character builder utilities and the excel sheet I originally put together is now cluttered with notes and changes that I've made.

    Basically, you max UMD at each level and then focus on spot, search, OL, and DD and sprinkle the rogue levels in as needed to max those skills. I also take intimidate in case I need to tank at all. It's a pretty versatile and fun mix, can solo well, and always contributes something based on what the group needs most.

    Eulogy098's build is good stick with that. I would change the build to a WF Khopesh user but its all a matter of preference.

    Since you didn't mention build pts etc. here are two human rogue 2 / barb 18 builds: one's a 28-pt THF w/out tomes; the other is a 32-pt TWF who needs a +2 DEX tome. [Skills & enhs are identical, so I only showed stats & feats on the latter.] Both have max ranks of Disable, Search, and UMD; and 11 ranks of Open Lock. Should be enough to handle any trap or lock with the right equipment & buffs. Only downside is Spot score sucks, unfortunately.

    If you don't care about Evasion, consider rogue 1 / ftr 1 / barb 18 for the extra feat; use it to grab ITHF/ITWF sooner. EDIT: dwarf or WF are also options; 1 less feat and need INT 14 to keep the same skill levels, but higher CON and DPS.

    Has full trapskills and half assed ol (so far didn't come across a lock i couldn't pick).
    Full HV to get a +5 skills boost.
    Very nice trap saves.
    Haste boost to make up for a part of the lost strength.

    Imo barbarian rogue is quite a decent combination, because you get the same trap saves that rogues get and you only loose a small amount of strength for it which barbs have plenty of.

    Actually i think those two lost levels are less detrimental to your barb performance then the ones a wizard looses.

    wow, thanks. i wish i didnt get impatient and actually make my own build. so, here it is, i made it so he could be able to find and get rid of the traps, but can also do more than hold his own in combat. admittedly, the rage will be a problem, so feel to critique. tell me where i can improve it. also, no more tome mentioning, pls

    My view is you're spreading yourself too thin. If you really want that many skills, a rogue-splashed ranger would do better. Otherwise, drop Hide, Listen, and MS so you can focus your skill pts on Search, Disable, and UMD, with leftovers into Spot & OL. I also think INT 16 is overkill; rogue skills aren't important enough to gimp the rest of your stats, IMHO.

    It essentially means you have infinite HP as you can carry large amounts of scrolls for healing around with you.

    Pots heal for 20hp. By high level as a barb you will have 600-1000 (build dependant).

    How many pots do you want to drink? Heal scrolls work much better.

    You will also be able to use resist wants, greater restoration scrolls, teleport scrolls, raise dead scrolls, equip race restricted items, and all other sorts of fun stuff.

    and also, if u seriously kno of a build that gives 1000 hp id really like that.

    UMD lets you bypass race & alignment restrictions on equipment (thus giving you more options on what gear you can use) and lets you use wands & scrolls once it's high enough. The emphasis is usually on Heal scrolls (reqs. UMD 42 IIRC), but there are plenty of other good buffs etc. to be had. It takes a while to pay off (doesn't start to become useful until you hit UMD 14 I think) and takes some effort to get the gear to boost your skill, but it's worth it in the long run, especially on a rogue-splashed build.

    Anyway, if you want some extra skill pts, take one of my builds and make it INT 14 CON 15; put the extra pts into Open Lock and/or Spot; use barb enhs to even out your CON score. If that's still not enough, grab a +2 INT tome and take it ASAP (min lvl 7) for more. But I wouldn't push your base INT any higher than 14; Spot & Open Lock are nice, but it's not essential for them to be maxed out on a trapmonkey like DD & Search are.

    You appear to have put a lvl-up pt in INT - don't bother. STR all the way! Use barb Con enh to get +1 CON and Human Adaptability to get +1 STR so final stats are 22 / 12 / 16 / 14 / 8 / 8.

    Half-ranks in skills do nothing; so round either up or down on OL & Spot.

    Drop WF Slash & Power Crit; they're practically useless. Take Imp Crit Slash and something else; Stunning Blow or Skill Focus UMD are good options, IMHO.

    I would drop the rogue skill enhs; you don't need the extra +1s and Versatility provides a more cost-effective short-term boost when it's needed. I would probably drop 1 or more of the Imp Trap Sense enhs too. Take the aforementioned stat enhs, plus Hardy Rage II. And I would definitely take some Imp Recovery; it's one of human's best advantages IMHO.
