If I remember correctly the following statment also applies to all media star wars related. It has to basically fit into or be apart from alot of the estabilished canon for the films. KotOR basically got offered on which period they could develop in. I am pretty sure same thing will happen with the MMO. Lucas has another company that keeps track of all the various storylines throughout all the different media and makes sure they dont conflict as much as possible.

George Lucas retains artistic control over the Star Wars universe. For example, the death of central characters and similar changes in the status quo must first pass his screening before authors are given the go-ahead. In addition, Lucasfilm Licensing devotes efforts to ensure continuity between the works of various authors across companies.Elements of the Expanded Universe have been adopted by Lucas for use in the films, such as the name of capital planet Coruscant, which first appeared in Timothy Zahn's novel Heir to the Empire before being used in The Phantom Menace. Additionally, Lucas so liked the character Aayla Secura, who was introduced in Dark Horse Comics' Star Wars series, that he included her as a character in Attack of the Clones.
So while Lucas prolly wont dip his hand into the plot. It is still gonna have to follow some rules for the setting.

If it's a Cryptic-made game then it'll be a pretty fecal game, no matter the pedigree.

The first NWN was alot more akin to PnP than DDO is. Attacks of opportunity, spell charts instead of mana, all kinds of different weapons, more available spells, prestige classes taken as levels instead of enhancements. The list goes on.

If this actually happens, and they stay as true to the PnP game as they did in the first one, I think alot of old schoolers would be happy.

If its anything like COH, it will be bubblegum for the brain, nothing spectacular or really challenging.
Cryptic is a completely different animal under Atari as compared to their CoH days. Don't except a lot of delays. They will just slap something together using their engine, throw in some content, release and then 6 months later will shift off most of the their personal to the next MMO being made.

If they stay 95% true, but it's to 4e, will that make you happy?

Generally home worlds are the best but sometimes some of us just dont have the time for it. I do usually like to see what someone has come up with and most seem to be able to top the prebuilt ones.

No old schoolers wont be happy as it will have to be under 4E it will make fans of that system happy I am sure and I know its not a small number but 4E didnt equal the sales of 3.x I am sure not thats mine or other rule schoolers fave edition either but what we need is World of Hackcraft.

    My thoughts as well.
there's one thing you never put in a trap if you're smart. If you value your continued existence. If you have any plans on seeing tomorrow then there's one thing you never, ever put in a trap.

Well, before I say anything up or down (mostly down), does anybody have access to what happened with the Hasbro and Turbine lawsuits?

The one big advantage they would have over DDO is that Forgotten Realms is a much more popular world than Ebberon x10.

    Two words: Living Grayhawk

    Or

    One word: Ravenloft

Never happen though, since WotC seems to have no interest in either. They are apparently doing some sort of Dark Sun reboot, for the life of me I can't figure out why. While I certainly enjoyed Dragonlance, it was (pre 5th age) far too restrictive to make a really good setting and post 5th age it became so bogged down in stupid I just got disgusted with it. They should have just ended it with the burn down the world book (Dragons of Summer Flame) but it was still making money... so enter the garbage.

I really liked Never Winter Nights at the time, but that was how long ago now?

ONLY thing that could make this all better if it was Cryptic and SOE.
