Default An introduction to Stormreach and the end to /death.

I played LOTRO a few months back and many things struck me as good ideas that we could use in DDO. One of them was this Introduction to Bree solo quest. It is basically a one time, solo only chain quest that sends you to various parts of the town of Bree to help you get a basic understanding of the layout of the city and to show you where some of the important locations/npc's are within the city. Yes, even vet players can drag each of their character's through this once.

The quest chain is not difficult to do and gives some good hints to new players stepping into Stormreach for the first time off the boat from Korthos Island. It would start with the npc that gives you the small collectable/gem bag below the Leaky Dingy, she sends you to the barkeep in Leaky Dingy, who in turn sends you to various locations or npc's within Stormreach. When completed, the Leaky Dingy Barkeep gives you 20 GP's, a small amount of XP, a stack of 10 tasty ham AND a small stone tablet. This last item is of importance.

This small stone tablet is a means to travel instantly from anywhere in the game to your resloc spot. While although it does not remove /death itself, it does give every character with a 1/hour use of a optional means of /death without the actual dying part. Any spiritbinder can be used to over-ride it to a new location if you wish. This tablet while taking up one slot in your backpack, it does become bound to you, never takes damage, can not be sold, traded OR destroyed by dragging it out of your backpack. It can be placed within your bank without issue.

The 1 time per hour usuage can be changed to what would suit the Dev's as reasonable for the players, if they decide to add something like this. Does anyone think these two ideas would be good for the game?

/signed. The quest would put an end to the 'Where's House X' questions, and the stone would be convenient for quick travel to Meridia or wherever your current hub is when you go do a quest in a different area. Me, I bind to the 12 for quick access to the airship and our guild's Navigator.

The current 'find the quests' quests can certainly use more spicing up, beside the usual narrative texts.
Instead of just sending you to find the quest giver you could do some other task like delivering a message or escorting an npc, etc.
The harbor one is one that needs it the most as you mention, there's so many players not knowing where the market is or that house wards even exist.

As for the tablet, you just have to find the nearest tavern to /death without damages.
Of course, that's a lame travel method, specially when eberron has farshifters.
Lame aside, the plane of ghosts has always been an easy travel method in D&D.

    /SIGNED!!!!

It took me like 2 months to finally get the basic idea of what stormreach was. Even now, I doubt I know all the little in and outs.

This would all be moot fo course if what the devs wanted was to have that massively overwhelmed feeling. In which case, HUGE success, but a frustrating victory for some players. There could always be an option no tto do it, and funble your way through stormreach.

    Non-LOTRO players translation:

Have a starter quest that has you run all over Stormreach and find different NPCS. Part of the end reward would be some item that teleports you to your "home".

And you can set your "home" in different places throughout stormreach. Has a 1 hour cooldown time.

I only used the term "home" as if I remember correctly(been a long time since I've played LOTRO) that is what they called the location you set your item too. We also had the teleport skill to your personal and/or guild house as well.

We had a stone of recall back in NWN1.
And we have friend bracelets in DDO Store... I guess if they ever implemented Stones of Recall, they'd be Store-only.

granted it lets you only run around in the harbor and theres no real reward for it, but still

i like the idea, both of them.

I think the thing that was hardest for me to learn was navigating

I have no problem with them putting a version of this stone in the store for those not wanting to run the quest for it but still have a player earned one through the quest at the same time.

Eh, yes, so would I - but if memory is serving me right, the old saying went like this: you are preaching to the choir.

While the Stone of Recall is a great idea, it'll never happen because it competes with the store [friends bracelets, hot cocoa, teleport wands]. With such already in place, I doubt that they would spend the time to make another item, and especially not one that does not have charges.

There was but with the redesign of the harbor and introduction of Korthos, I think it's gone.

Nobody ever bothered with that quest and Stormreach is A) not terribly big and B) is very well mapped out, practically with x's and o's and a paragraph on the back. My other completely biased opinion is that it smacks way too much of WoW especially if it's a "message" or "escort" quest and DDO is a very different.
