    Default [Advice] Attribute Emphasis

I am loving my warforged barbarian. It's pretty much a perfect complement to my much more cerebral wizard. Yes, that pun was intended. The question I have is amount where my attribute emphasis should be.

I know traditional barbarian attribute placement is to maximize Strength above all else, then get Consistution as high as you can. Rest really doesn't matter. I did a little something different and am wondering how it will affect me long term. Keep in mind that I wallow deep in the muddy pit called Permadeath.

Starting attributes: STR 16 DEX 8 CON 20 INT 10 WIS 6 CHA 6 (Placing each level-up attribute into Constitution)

Am I really messing up my character's DPS by doing this?

from a min/max point of view. Yes you are messing up your dps.

from a normal point of view. No Dps from a 16 base and an 18 base strength is minimal

Since Barbarians can pump their Str to inhuman levels anyway, you probably won't be hurting too much.
And since you're in permadeath, I can see your desire for loads of HP.
    Good luck!

Thanks for the replies, guys! Yeah, I figure between the rage-given Strength and Frenzied Berserker damage I should still be able to get some damage out. Thanks, again!

This spread will give 7 str less than an equally equipped barb with 18 base +5 levels. If you are going with two handed weapons, every attack will deal 10.5 less damage noncrit, up to 63 less on a crit. Not game breaking, but noticeable for sure. Your combat DCs will be 3.5 less as well (trip, sunder, stunning blow). You will have 60 (plus 10 for the odd number) extra hit points at level 20 over a 18 base con build barb, 80 vs a 16 base barb. You'll also have 3-4 better on your fort save, but that's generally not much of an issue.

If you are looking for better survival odds, though, going from 20 to 18 con will let you go from an 8 to a 14 dex. The AC quickly becomes worthless with either score, but an extra 3 to your reflex save would likely help more than 20 hitpoints (at level 20). The Int points going into wisdom would raise your will save up by one also, but since I don't play WF, I can't say how important that would be

    What, no Full-Int Barb build?

Sheesh, I thought you permadeath guys had this figured out

It seems in a permadeath community that min/maxing your character is a poor idea, as there's still that whole.. *min* part, and some mob or trap somewhere will play on a character's flaws.

But hey, that's strictly from an outsider's point of view. I personally get a lot of satisfaction from a high number of hit points. Playing my sorcerer can sometimes be... painful.

Good choice with WF, though. Will make him immune to a lot of things that would prey on said flaws.
