    Question Looting Etiquette

I was hoping to get some tips from the community on the protocol for looting when running a quest as part of a group. I frequently play solo but will join a group on occasion. I’ve read some previous posts on “ninja looting” and it got me thinking about some quests I’ve run where it was just a free-for-all looting event. In several instances at the end of the quest, all members of the group went their own separate ways - along with the contents of treasure chests. I expected to gather in a tavern or something to divide the goods but maybe I’m wrong. I’m not heartbroken (as I got my XP and favor), but as I advance in levels there may be quality items from chests that I truly need.

Is there a protocol or best practice for sharing treasure chest content after a quest ends? Aside from getting items I need from tough quests, I’m also trying to improve my own play when joining groups. Any feedback from the community would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Generally if its in your name in the chest then that item is for you.
That being said though there were up to 12 other people helping you achieve that completion and if you don't need an item, good form puts the item up for a random role for those that do.

There is no "ninja-looting" in chests, since no one else can grab your loot. The only place you'll see it referenced is in epic quests, where scrolls drop after killing mobs. As for normal quests, what you've experienced is the norm. Everyone gets their own loot. If you see something that you could use, just ask the person that it fell for if you could trade for it. Usually, they will either trade for it or simply give it to you outright. If not, don't worry, the best items for new players will usually come from end rewards, particularly for the static chains.

    If you're doing a raid:
    -Item falls under your name;
you have free will to do whatever you like with it.
You can trade it with other person if they get something you want vice versa.
You can put it up for roll if you'd like or just keep the item for yourself.
You can also give the item to your guildmates if you'd like.
Other people are not entitled to start sending
you rude tells about how you wasted their time. Or that you weren't
fair with such item. It's under your name, you do what you want with it.

If you're doing an EPIC quest:
    -Scrolls that appear on the groud;
It is best to announce that a scroll has dropped.
Also, tell everyone in group that you will pick up the scroll
but everyone will get a chance to roll for it at the end of the quest.
There has been instances where someone will "ninja loot" a
scroll and not tell anyone. So it is best to keep a good eye out and just let
everyone know you have good intensions. Everyone will have their chance at
    rolling for the scroll.

With that being said, you shouldn't run into
any problems unless of course the person is very immature.

EDIT: Answered by above posts already. Please ignore.

    ================================================== ========
True noob question: what does "put something up for a roll" mean? Is that something you can do in a normal quest, or does it only apply to raids? In all the quests I've been in (I haven't been in any raids yet) all the loot is assigned to the various players, and you can choose to give it to another player if you want. While I'll ask somebody if they need something I don't want (assuming anyone sticks around long enough) I've never seen anything about "putting something up for a roll" so far in my DDO experience.

If it has your name on it, you and you alone get to decide what to do with it. If it has their name on, you have absolutely no say whatsoever in what happens to that. It is also your choice to not group again with a player who's loot choices disappoint you, and vice versa.

One exception is certain epic items that drop once for the whole party, (and is the source of a lot of ninja-looting griping.) Another source of griping is people vendoring bound raid items that they wanted. Ignore these, as even if they're a newb player who didn't know what the item was, it still was their loot.

The only time you really put something "up for roll" is a named item from Raids/Epics if you do not generally need the item yourself.

Like say if you did the Hound of Xoriat raid
and Levik's bracers drop - you do not need them - you just simply say Levik's bracers for roll.

People will proceed to roll which you simply do by typing /roll d100

    Highest roller wins the item.

It's your loot, do whatever you want with it.

If it's BOP, it common courtesy to put it up for roll if you won't be using it.

Don't get bully'd into giving up gear you want.

I had a group try to bully me into giving up gear once, I forget what it was, but I remeber the incidient. They basically insinuated that "we" got the drop, and then told everyone to roll. So they all rolled on my gear. I rolled too, not wanting to be the guy that commits a party foul. Luckily enough, the other pugger in the group sent me a tell "its your loot, do what you want with it, you don;t have to roll on your own drops". I looted *my* drop, and all of the sudden everyone got ****ed at me because "it was up for roll", which it wasn't.

Don't let people bully you into giving them an item that appears in a chest under your name. It's your loot and you can decide what to do with it.

Don't loot items that you're not going to use and if the item binds to character, though. Sure, you can sell it to a vendor for 1/5th of its list price if you have a decent Haggle skill, but chances are good that the item that binds to character is worth a lot more to someone that will use it than the few thousand gold pieces it will fetch you at a vendor.

I think that people should put stuff up for a roll (/roll d100 is the command most people use to roll for an item in a chest) if it's a bind-to-character item that they're not going to use. After all, just about everyone does roll on other people's loot when it's offered up, so turnabout is fair play.

apparently swapping raid loot in the chest for other raid loot, in the same chest is very very Bad and morally Wrong!

    ROFL

    On a serious note:

    I reserve the right to:

    a) Loot
    b) Donate
    c) Put up for roll

ANY loot that drops for me

It's generally kind of lame to try and purchase raid loot, as it can be considered unfair to those that cannot afford to offer as much. I don't do it, but some do. It's their loot, I can't get mad if I don't get to roll due to someone selling their loot.

In the end, it's all fake digital code that means nothing in real life. Enjoy the game and yer loot!

Snatch the piece of "uber lootz" in question, run away cackling like a madman via VC, then deride all those not as blessed by the loot faery.

The loot is yours, if you have a guildie in your group that wants it, I will give it to them first then put it up for roll. I have been on quests where all nonmonetary loot is automatically up for roll(big hassle in quests with lots of chests). That situation can get a bit dicey cuz if you get cold dice you will get nothing. If you are joining a pug and you notice there are a bunch of folks from the same guild ask if they have any loot rules, you can ignore the "If its your first run you have to give your loot to others".

Most groups if they have special loot rules will state them in the LFM other than that its yours to do as you please but you will make many a loyal friend by thinking of others first if you dont need something.

One caveat to any of these loot rules (i.e. its yours to do with as you please)
that would be devout handwraps in nerco if you are running with a monk.

You don't have to give them to him but being a BTC most highly sought after "required" monk gear, please be nice.

O.K. it is less so now with Metalines finally dropping, but still.
Move along , Nothing to see here
