I do not understand why, on a daily basis. You see groups of 12 people standing around a chest waiting to loot.

Nobody wants to be first? Nobody wants to be last?


What the hell is it? Gotta be a reason for it..

Is it rude to just loot and get it over with already? Standing around doesn't seem to make the loot any better..
Why the hell do people do this? Stand around and wait for SOMEONE to say 3, 2, 1....




On an unrelated chest note... How hilarious would it be for the devs to slip a large mimic in.
With a .00001% rate of showing up.

12 people standing around a chest.. (after quest officially completed) first one who actually loots it gets hit with 150 dmg. And the chest goes running away. Like the key in delirium. And you must chase it down and kill it to get your real chest. And its immune to fire, acid, poison, and blade barrier.

I understand this as a theory, but can not confirm, but the character with the highest rank apparently affects the level of the loot dropped. The higher the rank the better the loot, but I was never able to confirm this theory.

I prefer a nice round 13 chest sneak humps. My loot has been much better since I've made this change.

I never actually follow this rumor, I just thought it might be a reasonable explination. Thanks for letting me know it's a false rumor, now I can get that off my list of rumors to shoot down.

I just don't want to open the chest. That way, if the loot sucks nobody can blame me, even in jest.

This is in direct opposition to normal chests, where I'm usually the first one to pop it. Gogo monk speed!

It might be my fault. A few months back, I was doing a low-ish quest. I told the party, 'You ever notice how the first person to open the chest gets worse loot than the others?' and throughout the quest no one dared to open the chest first. Eventually I opened the chest first and by mere coincidence everyone got better loot (they thought it was better loot because they got more stuff but all of them were gems). I got 1 or 2 items and the others got gems in different chests. They probably passed this around and well....news spreads fast.

I once told my party that if you roll (tumble) around in the new PrE cleric's healing aura, it will heal you faster. When we finished the last quest we did (it was random harbour quests) everyone was rolling in the aura, even the people that joined later on, because they got told this by others. I only wish I frapsed that, it was hilarious.

At some point in probably every DDOers gaming history, they've popped a chest and someone said something like "can we get everyone up before looting first?", or "You opened the chest without me there?" or something similar.

One thing that IS a problem, though I'm sure not the case in your situation, is people who open chests while one party member hasn't made it back into the quest from having to release out. If anyone is not IN the quest when the chest is opened, they usually don't get any loot from the chest.

This - the raid countdown sets up a situation like being the one guy in the firing squad with a blank. If everyone opens the chest at once, there's a chance the **** loot isn't your fault.

Although it is. And you know it. And the knowledge shall haunt you forever.
