If you're interested in a splash, I would recommend going 18 rogue/2 paladin. Your charisma will then add to all your saves, and with FoP, will double up on your will save, making it actually worthwhile. The charisma will also help power your UMD. You'll lose some DPS without the capstone, but it will make all of your saves very good, give you an extra toughness enhancement and give you access to things like wands of cure serious wounds at low levels.
Capped a dex/finesse halfling tempest/rogue, TR'd into a str/pa WF rogue pure build. From experience, str build is better in all aspects. The post by QuantumFX is my plan exactly. Currently at level 13.
Only change I will probably make at cap is to switch imp crit: pierce for exotic weapon: khopesh for additional dps for epics/boss fights which will be the main focus by then.
At cap, should have 34 str, 28 dex, 26-28 con(not sure which, at work atm ) ~550hp.

PESTILENCE
Went with the 17/15/14/10/8/12 break down. Wanted decent UMD and only need a +2 tome for ITWF and GTWF (Never know when you will get a +3). I figured the UMD was worth it, as well as earlier access to ITWF. Currently level 5.
Thanks for all the help and discussion. I am planning on staying pure and going Assassin III. Looks promising so far.
“No Battle Plan Survives Contact With the Enemy”
I would have started with 16 str so you could get 12 for int, but that looks good
12 int, lets you max out one more skill (spot, search, DD, hide, move silently, UMD, open lock, balance, uses up the 8 points you get with 10 int. An extra point per lvl lets you put some ranks in jump and tumble)
+1 on search and dd (helpful mostly at low lvls)
and +1 DC on assassinate saves
