Default How do you hit things

    Hello,

This is probably a stupid question but how important is aiming the little white circle (the one in the center of the screen) when trying to kill mobs? Do I have to make sure that it is aimed directly at mobs, or can I just shoot in the general direction? What difference does selecting the mob make (so there is a glowing circle around the mob). And finally, what difference does it make when the little white aiming circle turns red and had a little cross hair in it?

Ps sorry if this has been answered '000s of times before, but I couldn't find an answer

if you select a target you can't aim manually, you automatically shoot at that target. but if a mob runs sideways (like circling you) you will miss as you shoot directely at the mob

if no mob is selected you shoot where the white circle is. i don't know about mobs and the crosshair (i never aim at them manually) but it appears when you aim at breakables (so i guess it appears too when you are aiming at a mob)

Yea, as i understand it, if you hard target a mob you will shoot at them. If you dont hard target then you will shoot in the direction of the crosshair/ white circle. Now, if a mob happends to be in your direct line of sight you will still hit them when they are not hard targeted.

There is no damage or chance to hit difference between hard and soft target. Although if you click on the mob first this will greatly incrase your chances of fireing in the right direction.

Note, this works in an arc in front of you, if the mob runs behind you while hard targeted you can still miss them.

    .... if that makes sense.

I'm not sure if you're talking about using your bow or melee weapons. Melee weapons usually just require you to be within arms reach and facing the adversary. The bow requires some circumstantial flexibility however. Selecting a target will make the arrows always fly towards that foe which is both good and bad. At medium to close ranges this means you'd be hard pressed to miss. At long distances on a moving target, it guarantees that you will almost always miss because it is shooting where the target was without factoring in flight time. I usually leave the targeting off for this sort of shooting so I can lead my shots as needed.

Another annoying aspect of the game is that it doesn't have the best net code so if you grouping with people over a large geographic range or with people who have poor internet connections you'll be lucky to hit your target 50% of the time. The tell tale sign is shooting at a mob that is stationary right in front of you at close range and not even seeing a "miss" indicator.

As an archer to single out a target & actually be able to hit use auto-attack. I leave auto-attack on all the time. Take the attack feat & drag to a speed bar, as searching & some other things will turn it off. Then just use the nearest target key (tab by default) to cycle thru targets.

    Works wonders for me.

You have to be careful using auto-attack. You might shoot at something you don't want to agro. I usually find my target and then hold down my mouse button to attack. I only turn on auto-attack when I will be shooting at something for a long time.
