Default Elven Kensai AA with Khopesh

The build seems pretty solid, but I decided to make a last minute change to the stats (not reflected in the planner). With the +5 str from levels, +2 str from enhancements, and +4 dex from enhancements...that puts me at 22 str and 22 dex before items. The 12 starting wisdom will allow me to be item free with a +2 wis tome.

Since Ranger does not have any short duration spells, you could drop extend and your spells will still last 14 minutes. Should be plenty.

Drop that and oversized TWF and you can shoehorn in weapon focus slashing+weapon spec slashing for a net loss of 1 to attack and a gain of 2 to damage on your khopeshes

First off, I don't think ranger 13 & 14 adds much; I'd go with monk 2 for 2 extra feats, WIS AC, and Evasion early on (depending on when you take). [Aka the Ranged Monster.]

Second, it looks like you went longbow Kensai, but did you consider khopesh Kensai instead? Split the difference between ranged & melee DPS, I figure.

I was told in another thread that the buffs maxxed out at level 13. Fighter 7 gives the fighter haste III and toughness III enhancements, but Ranger 14 gets me Freedom of Movement.

That's a really cool idea on the khopesh kensai, but I have a bunch of twf builds...this one is really all about the ranged. I just needed a character to use some icy burst weapons that I made. In fact, I may eventually change to scimitars and use the elven enhancements.

That's not a bad idea to go with scimitars on an elf. With the enhancements it's fairly close to a khopesh, plus you save a feat. Drop extend also and pick up weapon focus/specialization instead.

12 wis is fine if you don't plan on taking monk levels, but I wouldn't worry too much about getting even stats at cap. There are so many ways to bump up an odd stat that you might as well just start out with the higher strength (16), and start with a 17dex.
    Ghallanda: Neatoelf15wiz/1rgr, Neetoelf17wiz, NeatoManhuman13rog/6pal/1mnk, NeatoHombrehuman12ftr/6pal/2rog, Kneetoedwarf17clr, Kneedoughdrow18clr/2mnk

Minimize expectations and you'll never be disappointed

Yeah...may do that down the road...taking extend the level before I get barkskin...it should save me spell points buffing a party until I get to a higher level...definitely starting khopesh...got a shocking burst icy burst to use at level 4...can always swap out the feat when I run out of good khopesh and swap to scimitars. lol

Jump spell maxes at ranger 9, Cure Moderate at 10, Resist Energy at 11, Barkskin & Prot from Energy at 12, CSW at 15 - not seeing anything which maxes at lvl 13. Good point about FoM, but if this build is for grouping, odds are there will be a divine caster along.

I changed the stats on the build. I dropped extend spell and oversized two weapon fighting. I added weapon focus and weapon specialization slashing. I've picked up some more decent khopesh, so I'll stick with that feat for now.

I'm still debating on adding two levels of monk. Any suggestions on where to take them and what monk feats to take (I'm currently at level 5 and about to level up to 6)?

p.s. Another option would be to go ranger 13/ fighter 7 for the extra haste and tougness enhancements. I would probably have to drop my favored enemy attack/damage though.

    How about this idea:

    11ranger/3monk/6fighter

You will loose +1hit to favored enemies and 1spell slot.

Instead you get Fist of Light, take Whirlwind Steel Strike and pick up Longswords which can be enhanced also with Elf. Same Range DPS, but when you go melee you are way more survivable without sacrificing too much dps. Now you also have an extra 2feats to play with (1 left over from Monk and another for not taking Khopesh)

This was a kensai-AA i drew up a couple of months ago. I didn't use it, but I it should work. It's almost identical to your setup, except with 2 monk. In yet another version I figured that if I took the 2 monk levels at 19,20 that I could fit in both greater weapon spec ranged and greater weapon spec slash at level 18 (where I take 12 ftr). It's only +2 ranged damage more than the first setup, and the feat order gets a little weird, so it's probably better on a lesser reincarnate than it is leveling.

Even with the monk centered bonuses, longswords are a significant drop in DPS from khopeshes against crittable foes. I agree the free heals from FoL is great - in fact I've got my own monk / ranger build using longswords based on it - but it is definitely not a melee-DPS-focused build.

You are right, but I am going by what the OP's intention is. He wants to be 1st and foremost a range dps. So the FoL + Longswords are for things get tough and he needs to switch to melee.

Also the class level progression in the build I am not too crazy about. That's waiting way too long for GTWF in my opinion. But then again, if you are mostly using Range DPS, I guess it is no big deal.

I'd like to try the monk stuff out, before I commit to it. I can make a level 4 veteran character with 3 levels of monk. I could go run a couple quests and level it to ranger 2 for TWF. Can someone post a 3 monk / 2 ranger build for me (or at least tell me the must have feats/enhancements)? Also, would I need to add concentration to my original build and would I need more wisdom? Thanks!

14 wis is enough. Your stats look fine for a 12/6/2mnk

If this is just for testing purposes: ranger 1, monk 1-3, ranger 2. Take WF Slash & Whirling Steel Strike at lvls 1 & 3; for your monk feats take, say, Toughness, Dodge, & Path of Light. You'll be able to TWF w/longswords at lvl 5 while staying centered. If you happen to have the Jidz-Tet'ka bracers on an alt, you can equip those too to see how the bonuses affect your build.

So I guess I just need to take the FOL enhancement and maybe way of the patient tortoise. Should I run around in wind stance most of the time?

Normally, yes, although you'll probably find your ki generation faster in Fire stance at early levels. And if you've got Jidz-Tet'ka you want to be in Fire stance before healing yourself (+25% self-healing amp).

I gave it a try last night and liked it. The only problem was that I was killing everything to fast to get much healing. Lol I'm working on a new build that should be pretty sweet...if I can make everything fit! Thanks!

Here's the final (I hope) version of the build...
